Former local radio sportscaster Jon "Boog" Sciambi has been named the new Chicago Cubs television play-by-play announcer for Marquee Sports Network. He replaces former Florida Marlins television voice Len Kasper, who moved into the Chicago White Sox radio booth last month.
Sciambi was first noticed locally as an evening host at Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM. He was the studio host of the Florida Panthers Radio Network for the 1995-96 season. He took time off during their playoff run to announce baseball games on the radio in the Northwest League.
He returned to the station and co-hosted a midday show with the Florida Panthers original radio play-by-play voice Chris Moore. Sciambi became the studio host of the Florida Marlins Radio Network in 1997. He added duties as their radio play-by-play announcer in 1999 and held that spot until 2004.
Sciambi, a Boston College grad, had a stint as a midday host at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in 2004 and 2005. He began to work part-time for ESPN television as a college basketball and baseball play-by-play announcer. Sciambi joined ESPN as a full-time employee as a television and radio play-by-play announcer in 2009. He has announced Sunday night baseball on ESPN Radio since 2010 and Wednesday night baseball on ESPN since 2014.
He has also worked for other Major League Baseball clubs. Sciambi was the television voice of the Atlanta Braves from 2007 to 2009. He was signed prior to the coronavirus pandemic to announce several games on the Boston Red Sox Radio Network for the 2020 regular season.
