Jeff DeForrest And The Greek Gone From WINZ

Fox Sports 940 Miami WINZ-AM will no local carry local programming. They have let go morning host Jeff DeForrest and mid-afternoon host The Greek. WINZ will now have syndicated Fox Sports Radio on their airwaves during weekdays and weekends. The radio station will still carry Miami Marlins, University of Florida football/basketball and NASCAR game broadcasts.
DeForrest, a Syracuse University grad, has been a longtime fixture on South Florida radio. He was on WINZ since July 2010 and his staff included producer and later on-air sidekick Mike Lubitz.
DeForrest started as a sports anchor at WINZ-AM and WINZ-FM. DeForrest was promoted to evening sports host of Sports Talk 610 and sports director on News Radio 610 WIOD-AM. He had a long reign there from the 1980s to the mid-1990s. He joined Sports Talk 560 WQAM-AM and was best known as the morning co-host with Joe Rose and later Steve Goldstein on The First Team from late 1996 until December 2001. DeForrest became the primary morning host and was dropped by WQAM in early 2002.
He became an afternoon sports host on 850 WFTL-AM. DeForrest landed at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in August 2004 as an evening host and was elevated to early morning host. After a stint as an evening sports host at 740 WSBR-AM and 1470 WWNN-AM in Boca Raton, he was hired by WFTL as a morning sports anchor.
DeForrest added duties at sister-station WMEN-AM when it launched into a sports talk format in March 2008 and he co-hosted the morning show with Lesley Visser. He eventually became the morning host of the program when Visser had other obligations. DeForrest held the morning shift until 2010.
He returned to Miami at WINZ as a mid-afternoon host in July 2010. DeForrest moved around the weekday schedule which included late morning host starting in September 2010, evening host in January 2012, morning co-host with Steve Goldstein in January 2013 and alone as morning host beginning in March 2015.
The Greek was added to Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM back in January 2019 as a mid-afternoon host. He was later a contributor to the Jeff DeForrest Show along with being a mid-morning on-air sidekick and simulcasted on Sports Radio 1230 The Zone WBZT-AM in West Palm Beach. The Greek will continue to host a midday show called The Penthouse on WZZR-FM.

  1. Just had his 70th birthday and Luby just got married. Radio execs are pricks. What about the Saturday Fishing show and Hialeah Trivia challenge?

  2. I have been listening to Defo for 25yrs here on the west coast of Fl. He is the only one who knew how to cover sports. It is entertainment. He is entertaining every day. Love you defo.

  3. Sorry to hear of the Defo shows demise. The Saturday morning Fishing host gave the impression of "good riddance" to them as now the fishing show will be longest lasting. Seems like a two-face industry.

  5. The greatest of all time. Good luck Jeff and Mike. Hope to hear you somewhere soon. It's worse than the Argentinian Tango takedown.
