The Florida Panthers pulled away by the New York Islanders 4-1 at Amerant Bank Arena on Sunday. The Panthers completed a six-game homestand and finished off a stretch in which 11 of their last 12 contests were at home.
Florida(14-12-2) went out to a 1-0 advantage with 7:46 left in the first period. Uvis Balinskis sent a wrist shot from the left point for his first tally this year.
In the second period, the Cats expanded their lead to 2-0 at the 7:05 mark. Carter Verhaeghe scored his eighth goal of the campaign on a wrist shot from the low left circle.
New York(16-11-3) cut the deficit to 2-1 at 9:03 of the second. Matt Barzal placed in a backhand shot from the inner left circle for his ninth goal of the season.
The Panthers increased their lead to 3-1 on a 4-on-4 situation with 6:03 remaining in the third period. Seth Jones fired a shot from long range for his fifth goal of the year. Sam Bennett would get an empty-net goal with 2:54 to go in the third.
