Adebayo is now behind only one other scoring performance in league history. It is in second place behind the 100 points by Wilt Chamberlain for the Philadelphia Warriors against the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania on March 2, 1962. Adebayo passed 81 points by Kobe Bryant for the Los Angeles Lakers versus the Toronto Raptors on January 22, 2006.
He also set two new NBA single-game records tonight. He ended up with 36 free throws made and 43 free throws attempted.
LeBron James did hold the Heat franchise record for the most points in a game. He scored 61 points against the Charlotte Hornets on March 3, 2014.
Miami(37-29), who now have a six-game winning streak, rocketed out to a 40-29 lead by the end of the first quarter. Adebayo collected 31 points in the opening quarter. The Heat expanded their lead during the second quarter and had a 76-62 halftime lead. Adebayo had scored 43 points at the midway point of the contest.
Washington(16-48) kept up with the pace early in the second half and were down 113-97 at the conclusion of the third quarter. Adebayo was at 62 points at the end of the frame.
The Heat got a 23-11 spurt to begin the fourth quarter as Adebayo kept on scoring down the stretch. Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra pulled Adebayo from the contest with 1:08 remaining in the final quarter just eight seconds after he scored his 83rd point of the game.
Adebayo led the Heat with a game-high 83 points and nine rebounds in 42 minutes of play. Simone Fontecchio finished up with 18 points and Davion Mitchell dropped in 12 points.
Alex Sarr had a club-high 28 points for the Wizards. Will Riley was able to contribute 22 points in the defeat.
