The Atlantic Division defeated the Central Division 7-5 to win the 2023 NHL All-Star Game at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise on Saturday. Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers was named the Most Valuable Player Award for the contest. He had four goals and three assists in two combined games.
In the first period, the Atlantic Division rocketed out to a 2-0 lead. Tkachuk found the net 37 seconds into the contest and Nikita Kucherov made it 2-0 at 4:05. It became 3-0 for them when Dylan Larkin scored with 43 seconds remaining in the frame.
The Atlantic extended it to 4-0 at the 2:03 mark of the second period. Mitch Marner passed from behind the cage and Larkin snapped a shot from the high slot.
The Central Division finally got on the scoreboard at 4:09. Nathan MacKinnon backhanded a centering pass from the left circle and Mikko Rantanen scored on a snap shot.
It became 5-1 for the Atlantic Division with 2:46 left in the second. David Pastrnak went on a breakaway and scored.
The Central closed it to 5-2 with 1:13 to go on a goal by Jason Robertson. Larkin got the hat trick with his third goal of the contest to make it 6-2 for the Atlantic just seven seconds later.
Both clubs combined for four goals in the final 53 seconds of play and it made no difference. Clayton Keller, MacKinnon and Cale Makar scored for the Central Division while Rasmus Dahlin got a tally for the Atlantic Division.
