Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers had a hat trick as the Atlantic Division knocked off the Metropolitan Division 10-6 at FLA Live Arena on Saturday. It was the second semifinal played in the 2023 NHL All-Star Game.
The first period started with the Atlantic Division jumping to a 2-0 lead. Matthew Tkachuk made it 1-0 just 36 seconds in and Dylan Larkin extended it to 2-0 at the 4:08 mark.
The Metropolitan Division answered back midway in the frame. Johnny Gaudreau put in two goals in a 20-second span at 5:20 and at 5:40.
The current NHL legends showed up for the Metropolitan Division. Sidney Crosby connected a cross-ice pass in the crease and Alex Ovechkin scored from close range with 3:41 remaining in the first to give them a 3-2 lead.
The Atlantic Division came rolling back with two goals. Matthew Tkachuk passed the puck to his brother Brady Tkachuk for a goal with 3:01 left. Nick Suzuki made it 4-3 for the Atlantic with 2:05 to go on a fed by Mitch Marner
In the second period, Artemi Panarin sent a long lead pass and Gaudreau scored on a breakaway at 25 seconds for the hat trick to tie it 4-4.
It was another give-and-go pass play as Crosby put it in from Ovechkin at the 1:58 mark. The Metropolitan took a 6-4 lead as Ovechkin found the net on assists from Adam Fox and Crosby at 2:21.
The Atlantic closed it to 6-5 at 3:49 as Matthew Tkachuk put in a shot from the crease for his second goal of the contest. They tied it 6-6 at the 5:29 mark on a goal by Nikita Kucherov with a feed from Marner.
The Atlantic Division took a 7-6 lead with 4:09 remaining in the second. David Pastrnak passed it to Suzuki for the score. Tkachuk then had a breakaway goal on a lead pass from Aleksander Barkov with 3:11 to go to make it 8-6. Brady Tkachuk got the secondary assist on the play. Dylan Larkin was able to add an empty-net goal with one minute to go and Pastrnak had a tally with 13 seconds left for a four-goal margin.
