The Boston Celtics avoided a four-game series sweep and held off elimination with a 116-99 victory over the Miami Heat in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Tuesday night at Kaseya Center. The Heat still lead the best-of-seven series 3-1. Game 5 will occur in Boston on Thursday night.
Boston started off ahead 10-4, however Miami pushed back with an 18-5 run and led 22-15 with 4:06 left in the first. The Heat had a 29-23 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The C's had a 14-5 spurt to begin the second quarter and were up 37-34 with 7:46 remaining in the frame. Miami finished the first half on a 13-6 spurt and had a 56-50 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Celtics scored 16 consecutive points and took a 68-61 lead with 6:50 to go in the third. Boston later controlled a double-digit margin and had an 88-79 lead at the end of three quarters. The C's got a 12-4 run at the start of the fourth quarter and were up 100-83 with 7:25 left in the game.
Jimmy Butler fell short of a double-double with 29 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Heat. Gabe Vincent dropped in 17 points and Caleb Martin had 16 points.
Jayson Tatum piled on a double-double with game-highs of 33 points and 11 rebounds for the Celtics. Jaylen Brown scored 17 points while Derrick White drained in 16 points.
