The Toronto Maple Leafs stayed alive with a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at FLA Live Arena on Wednesday night. The Panthers have a 3-1 lead in the seven-game series. Game 5 of the series will be held on Friday in Toronto.
After a scoreless first period, Toronto scored with the man advantage at the 3:29 mark of the second period. Mitch Marner pushed the puck from the right point. Michael Bunting was in the right corner when he passed the puck. It went off the official and landed in the crease area. William Nylander lifted a backhand shot by Sergei Bobrovsky for his third goal of the playoffs.
In the third period, the Maple Leafs increased their lead to 2-0 with 9:57 left. Jake McCabe fired a slap shot and it was redirected in by Marner in the slot area for his third goal in the postseason.
Florida broke the shutout with 7:47 to go in the third while on the power play. Sam Bennett forwarded the puck from the right wing. Matthew Tkachuk centered the puck from the right goal line. Sam Reinhart took a snap shot from the top the crease which was saved by Joseph Woll. Reinhart poked in the puck from the blue paint for his sixth goal of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Reinhart extended his point streak to three games. Tkachuk chalked up his 11th assist in single postseason to set a Florida Panthers franchise record. He surpassed Stu Barnes who had 10 assists during the 1995-96 playoffs.
