North American professional sports leagues have decided to close locker rooms and clubhouses to all media personnel on a temporary basis. This is due to the threat of the coronavirus and health concerns.
The National Hockey League was the first of the major professional sports leagues to implement this procedure on Saturday. The Florida Panthers had a home game in Sunrise that night, with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in attendance for the Roberto Luongo jersey retirement ceremony, and the Panthers organization allowed the local South Florida media to enter the team locker room after their contest ended against Montreal to interview players. The Canadiens held their postgame press conferences for their head coach and players outside their locker room area in a scrum.
Neither the Miami Heat and Inter Miami CF have not participated in a home game in South Florida since this important decision has been made. The Heat will have their next game in Miami against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. Inter Miami CF will play their Major League Soccer franchise home opener on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale against LA Galaxy.
