The Calgary Flames dismantled the Florida Panthers 3-0 at BB&T Center on Sunday. The Panthers lost their seventh consecutive game at home and are 0-6-1 during the last six weeks in Sunrise. The Flames finished off a five-game road trip and will now play 11 of their final 15 games of the regular season at home.
Calgary(34-26-7) raced out to a 1-0 lead on the power play at the 6:21 mark of the first period. Mark Giordano angled a pass from the top of the zone to Elias Lindholm on his right. Lindholm connected a cross-ice pass from the top right circle to the top left circle and Johnny Gaudreau snapped a shot past Sam Montembeault for his 17th goal of the season.
The Flames were given a penalty shot with 7:43 left in the first when Gaudreau was taken down on a breakaway by MacKenzie Weegar. On the penalty shot, Gaudreau slowly skated in and went with a backhand shot that was stopped by Montembeault.
In the second period, Calgary made it 2-0 at 3:10. Giordano shot the puck from the left circle and it was deflected wide left by Derek Ryan from the crease area. Ryan recovered it on the end wall, centered it and Milan Lucic scored from the top of the crease for his seventh goal.
Florida(33-26-7) surrendered another goal 1:09 into the third period and they trailed by three goals. Gaudreau flicked the puck from the right circle to T.J. Brodie at the blue line. He passed it to Girodano on the left wing and it was returned to him. Brodie then blasted a slap shot from the top of the zone for his first goal in the last 38 games.
