It was the final year that the hockey operations personnel of all 32 National Hockey League teams gathered together and sat at different tables on the arena floor. This tradition goes back to the 1980s. The main reasons for the stoppage as of next year were travel/hotel team expenses, privacy interaction issues on the floor and a limited time span from the draft to free agency on future personnel decisions.
The newly crowned Stanley Cup Champions the Florida Panthers did not have a selection in the first round. It is possible that South Florida hockey fans had less interest in the event.
