Maurice had coached and won the most games in National Hockey League history prior to winning his first Stanley Cup. He has won two straight Eastern Conference championships and one Stanley Cup title in his two seasons at the helm of the Florida Panthers.
He started his head coaching career with the Hartford Whalers and moved with them to become the Carolina Hurricanes. Maurice led the Canes to the 2002 Eastern Conference title and lost the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Maurice then moved on to the Toronto Maple Leafs for two seasons. He returned back to Carolina for a second stint and stayed there for four seasons. Maurice had a stint with the Winnipeg Jets for nine seasons.
