It was the beginning of a four-game homestand for Miami. The Lakers were playing in their second contest of a six-game road trip. The Heat moved up to second place in the Eastern Conference.
Jimmy Butler compiled his third triple-double this season and his 10th triple-double with Miami to set a franchise record. LeBron James did hold the Heat record with nine triple-double games during his four-year stint.
Miami(30-17) was down 4-2 and then scored 10 straight points. They were able to get a 39-25 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Heat extended it to a 22-point lead with 7:45 remaining in the second quarter. Los Angeles(23-24) went on a 12-3 spurt at the end of the first half, however Miami had a 69-52 advantage at halftime.
The Heat stayed ahead by at least 15 points and were up 89-70 after three quarters. The Lakers cut the deficit down to four points 111-107 with 1:07 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Butler led the Heat with a triple-double of 20 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Duncan Robinson scored a team-high 26 points while Caleb Martin had 15 points. Bam Adebayo contributed 14 points along with eight rebounds.
James compiled a double-double with a game-high 33 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers against his former club. Russell Westbrook chalked up 24 points. nine assists and nine rebounds.
