He was selected by the Florida Panthers in the second round at 43rd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. Heineman was dealt to the Flames for Sam Bennett on April 12, 2021. Bennett has compiled 27 goals and 18 assists in 47 regular season games over the last two seasons with the Panthers.
