Majicjack Clinch Playoff Spot

The Majicjack defeated Sky Blue FC 3-2 on Wednesday at Florida Atlantic University to clinch third place and a playoff spot in the Womens Professional Soccer league playoffs. They will meet either Sky Blue FC or the Boston Breakers in the first round in the playoffs at FAU next Wednesday between the third and fourth place teams. USA forward Abby Wambach put in a 13-yard shot just ten minutes into the game to give the Majicjack the early lead. Sky Blue FC tied the game in 55th minute as England forward Eniola Aluko blasted a right foot shot from 15 yards into the left side of the net. Both teams had great scoring opportunities ove the next 20 minutes. In the 77th minute, a lead pass by midfielder Sophie Schmidt to an open area beyond midfield was volleyed by Wambach over the head of goalkeeper Kristin Arnold who was already 16 yards off her line to give them a 2-1 lead. Aluko responded back with a ten-yard score after dribbling by two defenders in the 84th minute. Just one minute later midfielder Lisa DeVanna crossed a ball from the right side into the middle of the box where USA midfielder Megan Rapinoe redirected a head ball from six yards out into the left side of the net to clinch the victory. The Majicjack finish the regular season on Sunday afternoon as they host the second place Philadelphia Independence at FAU.
