Majicjack Win Final Regular Season Game

Forward Lisa DeVanna scored two goals as the Majicjack defeated the Philadelphia Independence 2-1 in the regular season finale at Florida Atlantic University on Sunday afternoon. Both teams decided to rest several starters with no chance of any change in the standings and the prevention of injuries before entering the postseason. Majicjack player-coach Abby Wambach and midfielder Megan Rapinoe didn't enter the game while midfielder Shannon Boxx only played in the first half. The Majicjack struck ten minutes into the game as a lead pass by forward Ella Masar to the top of the penalty area was one-timed by a charging DeVanna into the low right corner from 11 yards out past Independence goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart. Play was stopped in the 57th minute due to a lightning weather delay and was resumed one hour later. History repeated itself in the 68th minute as Masar assisted on DeVanna's second goal of the game and third of the season. Majicjack goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc could not hold on to the shutout as Philadelphia forward Amy Rodriguez put in a 14-yard shot during the 79th minute. The third-place Majicjack will host the fourth-place Boston Breakers in a first round one-game playoff this Wednesday night at FAU. The winner of that the game will travel to take on the second-place Philadelphia Independence in a one-game second round game on Saturday afternoon.
