The Florida Panthers have named Doug Plagens as the new radio play-by-play announcer for the club. Plagens takes over for Randy Moller who has moved over to Fox Sports Florida as a studio analyst and rinkside reporter for Florida Panthers telecasts. He becomes the fifth radio voice in franchise history following Chris Moore, Jiggs McDonald, Steve Goldstein and Randy Moller.
Plagens, a Syracuse University and Lake Forest College grad, has spent the last four seasons as the radio play-by-play announcer of the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. He also was the radio play-by-play announcer of the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League at the same time. He was the director of broadcasting and media relations contact for both clubs.
He previously worked for the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL as the radio play-by-play announcer. Plagens also had stints as a sports anchor and reporter in Youngstown, Ohio at WKBN-TV, WYFX-TV and WYTV-TV.
