The Fort Lauderdale Strikers played their final game of a three-game road trip as they were defeated by the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-1 on Wednesday night at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. The Strikers lost their second straight game after going undefeated in their first four games to begin the NASL fall season.
The Strikers return for a two-game homestand later this week. They will take on the New York Cosmos on Saturday night then face their cross-state rivals the Tampa Bay Rowdies in their only appearance this season at Lockhart Stadium on August 15 in the Florida Derby for the Coastal Cup.
Pedro Mendes got Atlanta(4-2-1) on the scoreboard first in the 41st minute. Fort Lauderdale(1-2-3) evened it up during the 49th minute when Walter Ramirez scored from an acute angle. Mendes picked up his second goal of the game in the 66th minute to give the Silverbacks the victory.
