Hurricanes Slip By Virginia

     The University of Miami Hurricanes bounced back with a 14-12 four-overtime victory over the University of Virginia Cavaliers at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville on Saturday. The Canes had not played in an overtime game since 2019 against Georgia Tech. 
     Miami(4-4, 2-2) scored the only points during the first half of play. Andres Borregales kicked a 38-yard field goal with no time remaining in the second quarter. 
     Virginia(3-5. 1-4) was able to even it up 3-3 at the 10:42 mark of the third quarter. Will Bettridge kicked a 27-yard field goal. 
     The Cavaliers moved ahead 6-3 at 12:11 of the fourth quarter when Bettridge converted on a 24-yard field goal. The Hurricanes picked up a 20-yard field goal from Borregales with no time left in the fourth to tie it 6-6 and send the contest into overtime. 
     Borregales made a 42-yard field goal on the Canes first possession in overtime. Bettridge answered with a 41-yard field goal for Virginia. In double overtime, the Cavs got a 41-yard field goal off the left upright from Bettridge. Miami responded with a 37-yard field goal by Borregales to make it 12-12. 
     The Hurricanes missed a two-point conversion as defensive back Antonio Cleary intercepted a pass in the end zone during triple overtime. Wide receiver Dontayion Wicks dropped a pass in the top right corner of the end zone.
     In the fourth overtime, Virginia failed on their two-point conversion with a pass beyond the end zone by quarterback Brennan Armstrong. Miami won the game when quarterback Jake Garcia rolled out to his right and reached the front right pylon for the score.
