Marlins Television Deal In Flux
Diamond Sports Group, which owns Bally Sports Florida and Bally Sports Sun, defaulted on their interest payment toward the television rights on the upcoming 2023 baseball season earlier this week. That organization controls the television rights to 14 Major League Baseball teams. Sinclair Broadcast Group may possibly file chapter 11 bankruptcy for Diamond Sports Group.
They have 30 days to pay the money to these 14 baseball clubs which turns out to be March 17. The teams could terminate their broadcast contracts with Diamond Sports Group if they don't pay for the television broadcasts rights this season.
The Miami Marlins games are broadcasted on Bally Sports Florida while Tampa Bay Rays contests are on Bally Sports Sun. It is uncertain what Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred will do about the situation. MLB may bring their television rights of the 14 baseball clubs in-house or another corporation could step in to take over the regional sports networks and buy the television rights to the Marlins and the other teams.
Diamond Sports Group owns 19 regional sports networks in the United States. Other local sports teams in South Florida, which include the Miami Heat and Florida Panthers, could be affected by these team television broadcast rights circumstances later on this year.
