Titans Stun Dolphins

     The Tennessee Titans shocked the Miami Dolphins 31-12 at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday night. The Dolphins have lost three straight games while the Titans won their first contest this year. Former Hallandale Chargers and current Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley made his team debut. 
     The first half of scoring consisted of all field goals. Nick Folk helped Tennessee(1-3) with a 53-yard field goal at the 14:16 mark and a 52-yard field goal at 8:20. 
     Miami(1-3) closed it to 6-3 with 4:13 remaining in the second quarter on a 44-yard field goal by Jason Sanders. The Titans regained a six-point lead when Folk booted a 47-yard field goal with no time remaining in the first half. 
     In the third quarter, Sanders added a 56-yard field goal at 9:02 and the Fins trailed 9-6. Tennessee picked up a touchdown with 6:00 left on a seven-yard run to the right side by running back Tyjae Spears and they led 16-6. Folk later kicked his fourth field goal of the game, this one from 51 yards away, to give them a 19-6 advantage with 36 seconds to go in the quarter. 
     It became 22-6 for Tennessee at the 10:45 mark of the fourth quarter. Folk connected with a 29-yard field goal. 
     The Fins cu the deficit to 22-12 with 3:36 remaining in the fourth. Huntley raced in on a one-yard touchdown run. Their two-point conversion attempt was intercepted. 
     The Titans would add a safety on an intentional grounding by Huntley with 2:27 left. Running back Tony Pollard later scored on a four-yard touchdown as he rushed around the right end to make it 31-12 with 24 seconds to go. 

Lightning Crack Panthers

     The Florida Panthers fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 at Amerant Bank Arena on Monday night. It is the final Panthers home preseason content prior to the beginning of the 2024-25 regular season. 
     Tampa Bay got the only goal of the first period and led 1-0. Emil Lilleberg fired in a slap shot with 6:41 left in the first. 
     The Lightning extended their lead to 2-0 with 8:20 remaining in the second period. Gage Goncalves snapped a shot for an unassisted tally. 
     In the third period, Florida made it 2-1 on a power-play goal with 4:34 to go. Sam Reinhart scored on a tip-in with assists from Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk. 
     The Bolts increased it to 3-1 with 2:09 left in the third. Maxim Groshev placed in a wrist shot into an empty net off a feed from Nikita Kucherov.

Marlins Win Season Finale

     The Miami Marlins completed their 2024 season with a3-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Sunday. The Fish were able to sweep the three-game series in Canada. The Marlins, who made the postseason last year, finished with 100 losses this season. 
     Miami(62-100) got out to a 2-0 lead during the top of the first. Jonah Bride singled up the middle for Jake Burger and Xavier Edwards to score. 
     The Marlins made it a three-run margin in the top of the sixth. Otto Lopez doubled down the left-field line and Bride crossed the plate. 
     Toronto(74-88) cut it to 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Joey Loperfido grounded out to second and Luis De Los Santos reached home.

Inter Miami CF Ties Charlotte FC

     Inter Miami CF tied Charlotte FC 1-1 on Saturday night at Chase Stadium. The Herons, who remained in front of the Major League Soccer standings, finished with a tie in their third straight MLS contest. 
     Charlotte FC(11-11-9) had a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute. Karol Swiderski redirected a shot from seven yards out. 
     Inter Miami CF(19-4-8) evened it up 1-1 during the 67th minute. Lionel Messi fired a left-footed shot from 22 yards away. 

Panthers Hold Off Hurricanes

     The Florida Panthers edged the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4- in overtime at Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday night. Both clubs faced each other last night in Raleigh with the Hurricanes victorious 8-2. 
     The Canes got out to a 1-0 lead with a goal by Jackson Blake on a snap shot at the 2:22 mark of the first period. The Cats evened it up 1-1 on a tally by Patrick Giles with 5:25 left in the first. The Hurricanes reclaimed the lead 2-1 with three seconds o go on a goal from Juha Jaaska. 
     In the second period, Carolina added two goals in a 24-second span for a 4-2 advantage. Jack Drury scored at 4:01 and Gleb Trikozov scored at the 4:25 mark. 
     Florida mounted a comeback later in the frame to tie it 4-4. Wilmer Skoog deflected the puck in at 6:53 and Sandis Vilmanis powered in a slap shot with 7:11 remaining in the second. 
     After no scoring during the third period, the Panthers won the game 2:40 into the overtime session. Jesper Boqvist was able to release a wrist shot. 

Marlins Mash Blue Jays

     The Miami Marlins beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-1 on Saturday at Rogers Centre in the second game of a three-game series. Marlins manager Skip Schumaker worked his final game as their manager last night. Luis Ureta will be the Marlins interim manager for their final two games of the 2024 season. 
     The Marlins got two runs in the top of the first then Toronto(74-87) answered back with their only run of the game in the bottom of the first. Miami(61-100) added three runs each during the sixth and eighth innings. 

American Heritage Blanks Plantation

     The American Heritage Patriots shut out the Plantation Colonels 35-0 at Heritage Field on Friday night. It was the first time that these two high schools from the same town faced each other on the gridiron. 
     American Heritage(3-3) stormed out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Plantation(4-1) gave up two more touchdowns in the second quarter and trailed 35-0 at halftime. A running clock was implemented during the second half. 
     The Patriots, who have interchanged wins and losses this season, will play at the Miami Norland Vikings in two weeks ago. The Colonels, who entered this contest undefeated, travel to face the Blanche Ely Tigers in Pompano Beach next week.

Hurricanes Escape Virginia Tech

     The University of Miami Hurricanes survived the Virginia Tech University Hokies 38-34 on Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hurricanes opened up their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule. 
     Miami(5-0, 1-0) won the contest on the final play of the game. Virginia Tach(2-3, 0-1) scored on a touchdown pass in the back of the zone with no time remaining in the fourth quarter. The on-field officials called it a go-ahead touchdown for the Hokies, but the replay officials at ACC headquarters declared it an incomplete pass. 
     The Canes led at the end of the first quarter 14-7. The Hokies controlled the second quarter and moved ahead 24-17 by halftime. The Hurricanes were still behind 27-24 by the conclusion of the third quarter. Virginia Tech scored an early touchdown in the fourth, however Miami rallied back with two touchdowns in the final nine minutes for a 38-34 lead. 

Hurricanes Pile On Panthers

     The Carolina Hurricanes stormed by the Florida Panthers 8-2 at the newly renamed Lenovo Center in Raleigh on Friday night. Both teams will meet each other again at Amerant Bank Arena tomorrow night. 
     The Cats participated in their fourth game of the 2024-25 preseason. The Hurricanes hosted their first contest of their preseason. 
     Carolina took a 1-0 lead at the 6:59 mark of the first period. Josiah Slavin scored on wrist shot off a feed from Shayne Gostisbehere. 
     The Canes got four unanswered goals in the first 16 minutes of the second period for a 5-0 advantage. Seth Jarvis collected two goals while Sean Walker and Jordan Staal each had one tally. 
     Florida broke the shutout with 3:27 left in the second on power-play goal by Oliver Okuliar. Carolina made it a five-goal margin again when Jack Roslovic placed in a snap shot on the man advantage with 28 seconds remaining in the period. 
     In the third period, the Panthers closed it to 6-2 at 4:02 when A.J. Greer redirected a shot. The Canes responded with 8:40 left in the third on a wraparound shot by William Carrier. They added another goal by Andrei Svechnikov on a snap shot with 5:06 to go in the period and led 8-2. Gostisbehere, a South Florida native, was credited with his second assist of the contest. 

Marlins Maul Blue Jays

     The Miami Marlins bashed the Toronto Blue Jays 15-5 at Rogers Centre on Friday night. Both clubs are finishing up their seasons this weekend in a three-game series. Marlins manager Skip Schumaker announced after the games that he was leaving the team due to a family matter and would not manage again in 2024 and in the future. 
     Miami(60--100) roared out to a 5-0 lead with three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning. The Fish added another run in the top of the third for a six-run margin. 
     Toronto(74-86) answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. They surrendered three more runs in the top of the fourth and trailed 9-3. The Marlins later piled on five runs during the top of the seventh for a 14-5 advantage.

Twins Pressured By Marlins

     The Minnesota Twins were stopped by the Miami Marlins 8-6 in 13 innings at Target Field on Thursday night. The Marlins took two of the three contests of the three-game series. 
     The Marlins will finish their 2024 campaign at the Toronto Blue Jays beginning tomorrow. The Twins, who are three games behind the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers for the final American League Wild-Card spot with three contests remaining in the regular season, will host the Baltimore Orioles this weekend.
     In the first inning, the Marlins leaped out to a 1-0 lead. Jake Burger knocked in Xavier Edwards with a double off the left-center field fence. 
     Miami(59-100) expanded to a four-run margin with three runs during the top of the fifth. Otto Lopez scored on an Edwards base hit into left field. Two batters later, Burger singled through the left side and Nick Fortes crossed the plate. Jonah Bride later grounded into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded for Edwards to score. 
     Minnesota(82-77) broke the shutout in the bottom of the sixth. Carlos Correa connected with a solo home run to left field on a 1-1 pitch for his 14th homer of the season. 
     The Twins closed it to 4-2 in the seventh inning. Byron Buxton got to first on a throwing error and Ryan Jeffers reached home.  
     They tied it up 4-4 during the bottom of the eighth. Brooks Lee drove in Royce Lewis and Carlos Santana on a double off the right-field wall. 
     The Fish regained the lead 5-4 in the top of the 10th. Bride hit a sacrifice fly to left-center field and Griffin Conine scored. 
     Minnesota responded with a run in the bottom of the 10th. Willi Castro got a sacrifice fly to the warning track in center field and Lewis touched home. 
     In the top of the 13th, the Marlins reclaimed the lead with three runs to make it 8-5. Lopez doubled into left field for Dane Myers to score. Four batters later, Conine singled into shallow center field which scored Lopez and Edwards. 
     The Twins tacked on one run in the bottom of the 13th and fell short. Castro scored when Buxton grounded out to short. 

Greg McKegg In Europe

     One-time Florida Panthers center Greg McKegg has signed a deal with BK Milanda Boleslav in the Czechia Extraliga. He has spent the past two seasons with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League. 
     McKegg has participated with seven different teams during his nine seasons in the National Hockey League. He was with Florida in 2015-16 and 2016-17. He had five goals and three assists for eight points in 46 games with the Panthers.

Panthers Outpaced By Lightning

     The Florida Panthers were outscored by the Tampa Bay Lightning 8-7 at Kia Arena in Orlando on Wednesday night. The Panthers played their first road preseason game. 
     Florida rocketed out to a 2-0 within the first three minutes of the contest. Zac Dalpe scored at the 1:45 mark while A.J. Greer added another tally at 2:57. 
     Tampa Bay responded with two goals before the end of the first period to tie it up 2-2. Darren Raddysh found the net at 7:14 and Tobie Paquette-Bisson scored with 24 seconds remaining. 
     Both teams scored near the midway point of the second period for a 3-3 game. Raddysh compiled his second goal of the game at 9:50 for the Bolts. The Cats evened it 3-3 with 8:05 to go on a tally by Sandis Vilmanis. 
     In the third period, both clubs exchanged goals in the opening nine minutes of the third period. Conor Geekie and Niko Huuhtanen had goals for Tampa Bay while Jesper Boqvist and Wilmer Skroog scored for Florida. 
     The Panthers then got two straight goals by Tobias Bjornfot at 9:41 and Ryan McAllister at 12:37 to make it 7-5. The Lightning rallied back with three goals to take an 8-7 lead. They picked up goals from Maxim Groshev with 5:21 to go, Dylan Duke with 2:46 remaining and a power-play tally by Geekie with two seconds left. 

Marlins Passed By Twins

     The Minnesota Twins climbed by the Miami Marlins 8-3 on Wednesday night at Target Field. The Marlins continued their six-game road swing as they lost their 100th game this season. The Twins clinched a winning record this year and now have a 12-23 record since August 18
     Miami(58-100) powered out with three runs in the top of the first for a 3-0 advantage. Jake Burger blasted a three-run homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch with Xavier Edwards and Connor Norby aboard. It was the 29nd home run of the 2024 season for Burger. 
     Minnesota(82-76) would score eight unanswered runs for the rest of the contest. The Twins had two runs in the third, one run in the fourth and five runs in the seventh. 

Florida Panthers Season Opener On National Radio

     Sports USA will have the terrestrial radio broadcast of the Florida Panthers season-opening game on October 8. The Cats take on the Boston Bruins to begin their 2024-25 campaign. The Panthers will be on a Sports USA National Hockey League game broadcast for the 28th time in five seasons. 
     The pregame on-ice ceremony will introduce the Stanley Cup to the crowd. It will be followed by the raising of the Panthers 2023-24 Stanley Cup championship banner to the rafters of Amerant Bank Arena. 
     The Panthers had 16 contests on Sports USA national radio in 2023-24. They included all seven games of the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers and six Eastern Conference Finals games versus the New York Rangers. Florida had two games on the radio airwaves when they challenged the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Semifinals and one contest battling the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. 
     Sports USA had nine game broadcasts in the 2022-23 season of the Panthers. Florida had five Stanley Cup Final contests with the Vegas Golden Knights and four games of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Carolina Hurricanes. Sports USA did air the 2023 NHL All-Star Game from Sunrise. 
     Florida was on national radio once each during the 2020-21 and the 2021-22 campaigns. The Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning played Game 4 of the 2021 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals and Game 3 of the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals in Tampa.

Panthers Plus Streaming

     The Florida Panthers have launched the Panthers Plus streaming service in cooperation with Scripps Sports, who will have their game broadcasts on television. Panthers Plus will only be available in the South Florida region for local consumers. 
     Panthers Plus for the 2024-25 National Hockey League season will cost $69.99. It will consist of 70 regular season games and first-round playoff contests. 12 exclusive national broadcasts on ESPN. TNT Sports and ESPN+ will not be accessible on the service. Four of the Panthers preseason contests will be on Panthers Plus beginning on September 27. 

Marlins Hurt Twins

     The Miami Marlins knocked off the Minnesota Twins 4-1 at Target Field on Tuesday night. The Marlins begin their final road trip of the 2024 season. 
     The Marlins have won four of their last 11 games. The Twins fell to two games behind for the final postseason spot in the American League. 
     Miami(58-99) blasted out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second. Jonah Bride hammered a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch for his ninth homer of the year. Four batters later, Nick Fortes drove in Derek Hill with a base hit into right field. Xavier Edwards followed with a double to left-center field which brought in Otto Lopez and Fortes. 
     Minnesota(81-76) could only get one run in the contest during the bottom of the third. Royce Lewis singled through the left side for Byron Buxton to score. 

Miami Heat Inks Nassir Little

     The Miami Heat have signed forward Nassir Little to a one-year deal. It is a non-guaranteed contract between him and the club.  
     Little spent his first four NBA seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers. He ended up with the Phoenix Suns in 2023-24 and participated in 45 games.

Chris Tierney Heads Overseas

     One-time Florida Panthers center Chris Tierney has signed a one-year contract with Dinamo Minsk in the Kontinental Hockey League. He was with the New Jersey Devils last season. 
     Tierney spent the early part of the 2022-23 regular season with Florida. He chalked up two goals and one assists for three points in 13 contests with the Panthers.

Panthers Sweep Doubleheader From Predators

     The Florida Panthers swept a doubleheader against the Nashville Predators at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise on Sunday. The Panthers won the first contest 3-2 and were victorious in the second game 6-2. 
     It was the third time in the past four seasons that Florida ended up winning both games of the doubleheader. The Panthers accomplished the same feat during the preseason in 2021 and 2023. 
     The Cats compiled three goals during the second period of the opening game for a 3-0 lead. Sam Bennett scored the first goal on assists from Matthew Tkachuk and Mikulas Hovorka. 
     In the second contest, the Panthers put in four unanswered goals in the first 16:15 of the first period and led 4-0. Sam Reinhart scored a power-play goal at the 4:34 mark on assists from Aleksander Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe on the play. Other Florida goals in the first came from Joah Davies, Jesper Boqvist and Gustav Forsling. Jake Lucchini got the lone tally for the Predators in the opening frame. Patrick Giles of the Cats had the only goal during the second period. 
     Adam Boqvist made it 6-1 for the Panthers midway through the final period. Steven Stamkos helped his new club Nashville with a power-play goal with 3:57 remaining in the third with assists from Luke Evangelista and Ryan O'Reilly. 

Mercury Morris Passes Away

     Former Miami Dolphins running back Mercury Morris passed away on Saturday at the age of 77. Morris played on the only two Super Bowl champions in Miami Dolphins team history. He was part of the team that went a perfect 17-0 during the 1972 season. 
     Morris was with the Dolphins from 1969 to 1975. He had 754 carries for 3,877 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns in 86 games with the Fins.  

Panthers Doubleheader Versus Predators

     The Florida Panthers will open up their 2024-25 preseason schedule on Sunday at Amerant Bank Arena. The Cats will play in their annual doubleheader against the Nashville Predators. It is the first time the Panthers have played a competitive game in Sunrise since they won Game 7 versus the Edmonton Oilers and captured the Stanley Cup back in June. 
     The tradition of the Panthers preseason doubleheader began on September 19, 2011 when they hosted the Predators. There were three times that the doubleheader was not played annually. The NHL Lockout stopped it in 2012, there was no doubleheader scheduled in 2014 and the COVID-19 pandemic prevented it in 2020. 
     Prior to 2011, regular season doubleheaders were held in the National Hockey League. The New York Rangers and the New York Americans played them at Madison Square Garden from 1926 to 1942. The Montreal Canadiens and the Montreal Maroons had them at the Montreal Forum from 1926 until 1938. 

Seahawks Fly By Dolphins

     The Seattle Seahawks controlled the Miami Dolphins 24-3 at Lumen Field on Sunday. It was the longest trip made by the Fins this season when they travel 2,724 miles away. The Seahawks remained undefeated after three games. 
     Seattle(3-0) took a 3-0 lead at 10:49 on a Jason Myers 56-yard field goal. It became 10-0 for the Seahawks when running back Zach Charbonnett rushed through the left side from four yards out with 6:44 to go in the first. 
     Miami(1-2) got their only points in the contest with 11 seconds remaining in the quarter. Jason Sanders booted a 23-yard field goal. 
     The Seahawks scored on the final play of the first quarter. Miramar High School grad and Seattle quarterback Geno Smith connected a 71-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver D.K. Metcalf on the right hash marks for a 17-3 lead. 
     There would be no more scoring in the game until the fourth quarter. Charbonnett scooted to the right side from 10 yards away with 5:02 left and Seattle led 24-3.

Marlins Lose Home Finale

     The Miami Marlins played their final home game in the 2024 season and fell to the Atlanta Braves 5-4. Miami(57-99) has lost eight of their past 11 games while Atlanta(85-71) has won six of their last 11 games. 
     The Marlins will go on the road and face the Minnesota Twins and the Toronto Blue Jays to finish their campaign. The Braves look to reach the National Lague postseason as they host the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals later this week.

Hurricanes Storm South Florida

     The University of Miami Hurricanes moved by the University of South Florida Bulls 50-15 in Tampa on Saturday night. It was a rare meeting between both schools. 
     Miami(4-0) held a slight 14-9 lead at the end of the opening quarter. South Florida(2-2) stayed within striking distance and were down 22-15 at halftime. 
     The Hurricanes would not surrender any points during the second half and pulled away from the Bulls. The Canes added 14 points during the third quarter and 14 points in the final quarter. 

Braves Bounce Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves stepped by the Miami Marlins 6-2 on Saturday at loanDepot park. The Marlins, who continue their final homestand this season, have won two of their past seven contests.
     The Marlins made it 1-0 in the opening frame. Derek Hill tripled into the right-field corner for Jonah Bride to score. 
     The Braves tied it 1-1 in the top of the second. Jorge Soler smashed a solo homer to left field for his 21st home run. 
     Atlanta(84-71) would take the lead 2-1 in the top of the fifth. Matt Olson knocked in Ozzie Albies with a base hit into center field. 
     Miami(57-98) evened it 2-2 during the sixth inning. Otto Lopez grounded into a force out for Bride to reach home. 
     In the seventh inning, the Bravos compiled four runs for a 6-2 advantage. Olson smacked his 29th home run of the campaign on a 1-0 pitch to right-center field with Marcell Ozuna aboard. Four batters later, Gio Urshela lifted a two-run home run to left field for his second homer in a Braves uniform. Ramon Laureano scored in front of him on the play. 

Inter Miami CF & New York City FC Draw

     Inter Miami CF tied New York City FC 1-1at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. The Herons drew in their Major League Soccer game for the second time in four days. 
     After no scoring in the first half, Inter Miami CF(19-4-7) pulled ahead 1-0 during the 75th minute. Leonardo Campana steered in a six-yard shot with his left foot. 
     New York City FC(11-11-8) evened it up 1-1 during stoppage time near the end of the contest. NYCFC took a corner kick from the left side and James Sands put in a header from seven yards.

Braves Stunned By Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves fell to the Miami Marlins 4-3 on Friday night at loanDepot park. The Braves did not lose any ground to the New York Mets for the final National League postseason spot. 
     Miami(57-97) ruptured with three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 lead. Jake Burger hit a ground-rule double to right field for Connor Norby to score. Kyle Stowers followed with a base hit into left-center field which scored Jesus Sanchez. Jonah Bride came up next and knocked in Burger with a sacrifice fly to right field. 
     Atlanta(83-71) slowly chipped away at the lead. Former Marlin Jorge Soler brought in Michael Harris on a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the third. Orlando Arcia connected with his 17th home run of the season to left field in the fourth inning and they were down 3-2. The Fish expanded it to 4-2 in the fifth inning when Norby scored on a wild pitch in the 
     The Braves closed it to 4-3 in the top of the sixth. Ramon Laureano smacked a solo home run to right-center field on a 1-2 count or his 10th homer of the year. 

American Heritage Edged By Miami Central

     The Miami Central Rockets slipped by the American Heritage Patriots 35-32 at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami on Friday night. Both teams are considered FHSAA championship contenders in 2024. 
     They previously met in the FHSAA State Championship game in 2022 at Fort Lauderdale where the Rockets prevailed 38-31. The Patriots have never won a contest against Miami Central on four occasions. 
     Miami Central(4-1) will face the Miami Northwestern Bulls two weeks from now in a neutral site at Traz Powell Stadium. American Heritage(2-3) hosts the Plantation Colonels next week in a District 15-4A clash. 

St. Thomas Aquinas Blanks McArthur

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders shut out the McArthur Mustangs at 56-0 Simmons Family Field on Friday night in a District 15-5A matchup. STA looks to win their sixth straight state championship in 2024. 
     St. Thomas Aquinas travels up to Orlando next week to face the Bishop Moore Hornets. McArthur(1-3) will visit the Hollywood Hills Spartans a week from now in another District 15--5A battle.

Chaminade-Madonna Survives Miami Norland

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions held off the Miami Norland Vikings 45-20 at Vince Zappone Field in Hollywood on Thursday night. It was a rare meeting on the gridiron between both high schools. 
     Chaminade-Madonna(3-2) will visit the Western Wildcats next week. Miami Norland(3-1) will have a District 15-4A game at the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks in a week. 

Glades Central Grounds Dwyer

     It was the renewal of a Palm Beach County rivalry as the Glades Central Raiders handled the Dwyer Panthers 33-7 at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens on Thursday night. Both teams have been near the top among Palm Beach County high school football programs for 20 years. 
     Glades Central(5-0) got out to a 6-0 lead during the first quarter. They added one more touchdown in the second quarter and had a 13-0 halftime lead. Dwyer(1-4) gave up another touchdown in the third quarter and were down 20-0. 
     The Raiders will host the Clewiston Tigers next week in a District 10=2A matchup. The Panthers will remain home in a week versus the West Boca Raton Bulls in a District 12-6A clash. 

Shohei Ohtani Joins 50/50 Club & Dodgers Top Marlins

     Shohei Ohtani because the first player in Major League Baseball history to collect 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season and entered the 50/50 club. The Los Angeles Dodgers dismantled the Miami Marlins 20-4 on Thursday at loanDepot park. Ohtani also did something else nobody has done before. He had three home runs, two stolen bases, two doubles, 10 runs batted in and six hits in one MLB contest. 
     The Dodgers, who clinched their 12th straight postseason berth, have won four of their last five games. The Marlins have lost five of their past six contests. The Marlins will host the Atlanta Braves to begin a three-game series starting tomorrow. The Dodgers fly home to face the Colorado Rockies on Friday. 
     Los Angeles(91-52) climbed out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Ohtani led off the game with a double off the top of the right-center field wall and he would get his 50th stolen base three batters later. He then scored on a Will Smith sacrifice fly to right field. 
     The Dodgers increased it to 2-0 in the top of the second. Ohtani knocked in Max Muncy with a base hit into right field. 
     Miami(56-97) cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second. Jake Burger blasted a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-2 pitch for his 27th homer of the season. 
     In the third inning, Los Angeles added five more runs for a 7-1 advantage. Gavin Lux walked with the base loaded and Smith crossed the plate. Andy Pages came up next with a walk to score Tommy Edman. Chris Taylor followed with a sacrifice fly into right field which scored Muncy. One batter later, Ohtani knocked in Lux and Pages on a double into the left-center field gap. 
     The Marlins picked up two runs during the bottom of the fifth and were down 7-3. Griffin Conine lifted a two-run homer to right field on a 0-1 count with Otto Lopez aboard. It was Conine's third home run of his career. 
     The Dodgers expanded their lead to 9-2 in the top of the sixth. Ohtani clobbered a two-run home run into the upper deck in right-center field for his 49th home run of the 2024 season. He tied a Major League Baseball single-season record held by Rickey Henderson with at least one home run and one stolen base in the same game for the 13th time. 
     It became 14-3 for Los Angeles in the top of the seventh. Pages drove in Edman and Muncy with a double into the left-field corner. Lux would eventually score on wild pitch. 
     Ohtani came to the plate with Lux on third and Pages on second. He powered a three-run homer over the left-field fence on a 1-2 pitch for his 50th home run of the season to join the 50/50 club. He set a Dodgers franchise record with the most home runs in a season passing Shawn Green who had 49 homers in 2001. 
     The Dodgers made it a 17-run margin 20-3 in the top of the ninth. Ohtani crushed a three-run homer on a 2-0 count into the right-field upper deck for his third home run in the contest and 51st homer of the year. Muncy and Taylor were able to score in front of him. 
     Four batters later, Edman singled up the middle with the bases loaded and Kevin Kiermaier along with Kiki Hernandez scored. Muncy followed with a base hit into center field and Hunter Feduccia touched home. 
     The Fish added one run in the bottom of the ninth and trailed 20-4. Nick Fortes lined a solo home run to left field on the first pitch for his fourth home run of the campaign. 

Jaromir Jagr To Retire

     Former Florida Panthers right wing Jaromir Jagr is expected to ret from professional hockey at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. He has not played in the National Hockey League since 2017-18 with the Calgary Flames. Jagr would be eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2028. 
     Jagr played 24 NHL seasons and won two Stanley Cups, one Hart Trophy and five Art Ross Trophies. He was on nine different National Hockey League teams. 
     He had a stint with the Florida Panthers for three seasons rom 2014-15 to 2016-17. Jagr finished with 49 goals and 81 assists for 130 points in 181 games with the Panthers. He captured the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy with the Cats in the 2015-16 campaign. 

Kyle Okposo Retires

     One-time Florida Panthers right wing Kyle Okposo announced his retirement from the National Hockey League on Thursday. He was acquired by the Panthers from the Buffalo Sabres on March 8. He contributed to Florida capturing their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history back in June. 
     Okposo had no points in six regular season contests with the Cats. He was able to chalk up two assists in 17 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. 

Radko Gudas Anaheim Ducks Captain

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Radko Gudas has been named the ninth captain in Anaheim Ducks franchise history. He is the team's first captain since Ryan Getzlaf retired in 2022. 
     Gudas played three seasons with the Panthers from 2020-21 until 2022-23. He picked up 44 points and 917 hits in 203 contests while with Florida. He helped the Cats win the 2023 Eastern Conference title. 

Chris Wittyngham Soccer Podcast Host

     Local Miami sportscaster Chris Wittyngham along with Russell Howard will co-host the SmartLess Media soccer podcast called GoalLess. It will be partnered by both Meadowlark Media and SiriusXM Radio. 
     Wittyngham, a University of Miami grad, joined Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in 2012 as a producer and weekend co-host. He co-hosted the evening program with Josh Friedman from July 2014 until December 2015. Wittyngham filled in as the afternoon co-host with Ethan Skolnick in January 2016 and would become the permanent afternoon co-host from May 2016 to September 2016. 
     He left The Ticket for full-time work at beIN Sports as a NASL and Eiuropean soccer play-by-play announcer. He was the Miami Dolphins Radio Network pregame studio host and fill-in host on 560 WQAM-AM in 2017.Wittyngham and Skolnick would later launch Five Reasons Sports Network. 
     Wittyngham became the first audio play-by-play announcer of Inter Miami CF on InterMiamiCF.com in March 2020. The game broadcasts were streamed on Onside Sports from October 2020 until June 2021. Inter Miami CF would continue on InterMiamiCF.com for rest of the 2021 campaign. He held that position with the team until February 2023. He increased his profile as a television play-by-play announcer on AppleTV in 2023. 
     He was the producer of the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz when it was on ESPN Radio and syndicated to WQAM. Wittyngham moved to Meadowlark Media in January 2020 when it launched. He has worked as the executive producer of the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz program, on-air podcast co-host and contributor.

Inter Miami CF Ties Atlanta United FC

     Inter Miami CF and Atlanta United FC played to a 1-1 tie at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday night. The Herons continued to stay in first place in the overall Major League Soccer standings. 
     In the first half, Inter Miami CF(19-4-6) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. David Ruiz placed in a 14-yard shot with his right foot. 
     Atlanta United FC(8-13-8) evened it up 1-1 in the 56th minute. Saba Lobjanidze put in a header from eight yards out.
     The Herons reclaimed the lead 2-1 during the 59th minute. Leonardo Campana blasted in a left-footed, 22-yard direct kick that was deflected off the wall. 
     It was tied up again 2-2 in the 84th minute by Atlanta United FC. Alexey Miranchuk curled in a left-footed shot from 21 yards away on the right side. 

Dodgers Dispose Marlins

     The Los Angeles Dodgers busted the Miami Marlins 8-4 at loanDepot park on Wednesday night. The Marlins have fallen in four of their past five games. The Dodgers reached the 90-win mark for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons. 
     Los Angeles(90-62) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Will Smith hammered a solo home run off the left-field foul pole on a 2-0 pitch for his 19th homer of the 2024 campaign. 
     The Dodgers piled on five more runs in the top of the fourth and led 6-0. Tommy Edman sliced a two-run homer to right field on a 0-1 count with Freddie Freeman aboard. It was Edman's sixth home run with his new team. Three batters later, Kiki Hernandez smacked a three-run home run on the first pitch to left-center field for his 10th homer of the year. Smith and Andy Pages scored in front of him on the play. 
     Miami(56-96) collected three runs in the bottom of the seventh and trailed 6-3. Otto Lopez singled through the right side to score Jonah Bride and Kyle Stowers. Two batters later, Lopez scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Nick Fortes. 
     In the eighth inning, Los Angeles expanded it to a five-run margin with two more runs. Chris Taylor knocked in Freeman and Smith on a base hit into left field. 
     The Marlins pushed in one run in the bottom of the ninth and they were down 8-4. Fortes drove in Sanchez with a sacrifice fly to right field. 

David Beckham Soccer Commentator

     Inter Miami CF co-owner and president David Beckham is about to enter the world of broadcasting. He will host an alternate broadcast as a studio co-host of UEFA Championship League soccer games on the Paramount+ streaming service. 
     It is a two-year deal between him and Paramount which will last through May 2026. Beckham will continue his roles with Inter Miami CF. 
     Beckham & Friends will occur on May 6 and May 7 during the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals. He will host the alternate broadcast the day of the UEFA Champions League Final in Munich on May 31. 

Alondes Williams Landing With Clippers

     One-time Miami Heat guard Alondes Williams is expected to be added by the Los Angeles Clippers. The team will be playing their home games in a new venue for the upcoming season. 
     Williams spent most the 2023-24 season with the Miami Heat G League affiliate which is the Sioux City Skyforce. He was brought out to the Miami Heat and participated in seven games. 

Mike Hoffman Goes To Oilers

     Former Florida Panthers left wing Mike Hoffman has joined the Edmonton Oilers. He has agreed to a professional tryout offer with the club. 
     He participated with the San Jose Sharks during the 2023-24 campaign. Hoffman finished with career-lows in a complete season with 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points in 66 contests. 
     Hoffman was with the Panthers for two seasons in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He compiled 65 goals and 64 assists for 129 points along with 37 power-play goals in 151 games with Florida.

Hurricanes Add Skyler Brind'Amour

     The Carolina Hurricanes have inked forward Skyler Brind'Amour to a professional tryout offer. He spent last season with the Charlotte Checkers, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Florida Panthers. Bind'Amour finished off with eight points in 54 games. 
     He is the son of current Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rob Brind'Amour. He played college hockey with Quinnipiac University and captured a NCAA National Championship in 2023. 

Panthers Give Professional Tryout Offers

     The Florida Panthers entered their training camp with new players on their roster. The team made professional tryout offers to forward John Leonard and forward Aidan McDonough. 
     Leonard spent last season with the Arizona Coyotes and chalked up one point in six games. He had previous stints with the San Jose Sharks and the Nashville Predators. 
     McDonough participated with Abbotsford Canucks in the American Hockey League last season. He was with the Vancouver Canucks for six contests in 2022-23. 

Dodgers Outscored By Marlins

     Shohei Ohtani smacked his 48th home run of the 2024 season as the Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the Miami Marlins 11-9 on Tuesday night at loanDepot park. The Dodgers had their two-game winning streak snapped. 
     The Marlins began a six-game homestand for their final games in Miami this season. The Marlins snapped a three-game losing streak. 
     Miami(56-95) scooted in front 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Jesus Sanchez ended up with an infield hit for Xavier Edwards to score. Two batters later, Bride drove in Connor Norby with a single up the middle. 
     The Fish made it 4-0 in the second inning with two more runs. Sanchez singled into left-center field and Nick Fortes reached home. Norby would score on a Jake Burger force out at second. 
     Los Angeles(89-62) came back with four runs in the top of the third to tie it up 4-4. Shohei Ohtani crushed a two-run homer into the upper deck of right field on a 1-1 pitch with Hunter Feduccia aboard. It was Ohtani's 48th home run of the campaign. He is now two home runs and two stolen bases short of being the first player in Major League Baseball history to join the 50-50 club. 
     Freddie Freeman later singled into right-center field and Teoscar Hernandez singled to left field. Max Muncy knocked in both of them on a double into the left-center field gap to make it 4-4. 
     The Marlins reclaimed the lead 5-4 in the bottom of the frame. Otto Lopez powered a solo home run to left field on a 1-0 pitch for his sixth home run of the year. 
     In the top of the fourth, the Dodgers evened it up 5-5. Former Marlin Miguel Rojas lifted a solo homer to left field on a 1-0 count. 
     Miami put up two runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-5 advantage. Sanchez doubled into the right-field corner and Norby scored. Three batters later, Kyle Stowers tripled down the right-field line and Sanchez touched home. 
     The Dodgers cut it to 7-6 in the fifth inning. Freeman hit a sacrifice fly into left field and Mookie Betts raced home. 
     The Fish got two runs in the sixth inning when Burger grounded out to short and Norby crossed the plate. It became 9-6 for Miami as Sanchez later scored on a double by Kyle Stowers through the right side. 
     Los Angeles closed it to 9-7 in the top of the seventh. Muncy drove in Freeman with a base hit into right-center field. 
     The Marlins extended their lead to 11-7 in the bottom of the eighth. Burger pounded a two-run homer to center field on the first pitch for his 26th home run of the 2024 season. Cristian Pache scored in front of him on the play. 
     The Dodgers stayed alive with two runs during the top of the ninth. Muncy doubled down the right-field line for Betts and Hernandez to score. 

Florida Panthers Staying In Sunrise

     The newly crowned Stanley Cup champions the Florida Panthers will be staying at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise for a long time. The Broward County Commissioners have voted unanimously to a five-year extension of their operating agreement with the Florida Panthers through 2033. There are Broward County options to extend it again for five more years through 2038 and 2043. 
     Sunrise has been the home of the Florida Panthers and their headquarters since 1998. The Panthers played their home games at Miami Arena from 1993 to 1998.  

Rocco Grimaldi Signs With Carolina

     Former Florida Panthers center Rocco Grimaldi has signed a professional tryout offer with the Carolina Hurricanes. He was with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League last season. 
     Grimaldi started in the NHL with the Florida Panthers in 2014-15 and 2015-16. He was able to chalk up four goals and two assists for six points in 27 games with Cats.

Tyler Huntley Joining Dolphins

     Former Hallandale Chargers quarterback Tyler Huntley will be joining the Miami Dolphins. He will begin as a backup quarterback to Skylar Thompson. Huntley was recently on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. 
     The Dolphins saw a change in their depth chart at quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa suffered his third concussion while in the NFL this past Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills. 
     Huntley signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent back in May 2020. He participated in 20 regular season contests during his four seasons with that club.

Nationals Nip Marlins

     The Washington Nationals squeezed by the Miami Marlins 4-3 at Nationals Park on Sunday. The Marlins concluded a four-game series with the Nationals along with a seven-game road swing. The Fish will host the Los Angeles Dodgers in Miami on Tuesday. 
     Miami(55-95) had a 1-0 advantage in the top of the third. Jake Burger hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Jhonny Pereda scored.
     Washington(68-81) picked up two runs to take the lead 2-1. Luis Garcia Jr. knocked in Andres Chaparro on a base hit through the right side. Two batters later, Keibert Ruiz singled to right field and Garcia crossed the plate. 
     In the fifth inning, the Nationals increased it to 3-1. James Wood smacked a solo homer on a 1-0 pitch to center field for his sixth home run in his rookie campaign. 
     The Marlins cut it to 3-2 in the top of the seventh. Jonah Bride cracked a solo home run to left field on a 1-1 count for his seventh homer of the season. 
     The Nats regained a two-run margin during the bottom of the eighth. Wood collected his second home run of the game and eighth home run of the year on a 1-1 pitch to left-center field. 
     The Fish could get only one run in the ninth inning and fell short 4-3. David Hensley grounded out to short for Bride to score.

Inter Miami CF Takes Philadelphia Union

     Inter Miami CF came back on the Philadelphia Union 3-1 at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. The Herons have not played a game in the past two weeks. Lionel Messi made his first on-field appearance with Inter Miami CF since June. 
     Philadelphia(7-12-9) raced out to a quick 1-0 lead just 58 seconds into the contest. Mikael Uhre ended up with the tally when he placed in a 21-yard shot with his left foot. 
     Inter Miami CF(19-4-5) rallied back later in the first half. Messi scored for the Herons in the 26th minute to tie it up 1-1. He faked a left-footed shot at the top of the penalty area and then put in a right-footed shot from 16 yards away. 
     Messi would give Inter Miami CF a 2-1 advantage during the 30th minute of play. Messi one-timed a shot with his left foot from 14 yards out. 
     The Herons added another goal in stoppage time at the end of the second half for a 3-1 lead. Luis Suarez fired a one-time, right-footed shot from 18 yards. 

Hurricanes Dump Ball State

     The University of Miami Hurricanes walloped the Ball State University Cardinals 62-0 on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. The game was held up for two hours and thirty minutes prior to the start due to a weather delay. 
     Miami(3-0) put up 10 points during the opening quarter. The Hurricanes added 21 points in the second quarter for a 31-0 lead at halftime. Ball State(1-1) surrendered 10 more points in the third quarter followed by another 21 points in the final quarter. 

Nationals Grind Marlins

     The Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Saturday at Nationals Park. The Marlins will finish their seven-game road trip tomorrow. 
     Miami(55-94) moved out to the lead 1-0 in the top of the second. Otto Lopez singled through the left side for Jonah Bride to score. 
     Washington(67-81) tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the frame. Joey Gallo blasted a solo home run to right field for his seventh homer of the year. 
     The Nats took the lead 2-1 during the bottom of the fourth. Keibert Ruiz knocked in Jose Tena with a base hit through the right side. 
     It became 3-1 for the Nationals in the bottom of the sixth. Tena walloped a solo homer to center field for his third home run of the campaign. 
     In the eighth inning, Washington extended their lead to 4-1. Juan Yepez powered a solo home run to left field for his sixth homer in 2024. 

Atlantic Cans Blanche Ely

     The Atlantic Eagles knocked off the Blanche Ely Tigers 42-13 at Richard L. Williams Stadium in Pompano Beach on Friday night. It was a battle between two teams in District 14-5A.
     Atlantic(4-0, 1-0) scored the first 21 points of the contest and led 21-7 after one quarter. The Eagles added two touchdowns and had a 35-7 halftime lead over Blanche Ely(3-1, 0-1). 
     The Eagles make a long trip to take on The First Academy Royals in Orlando next week. The Tigers visit the Piper Bengals in a week.

Palm Beach Central Surprises Santaluces

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos pushed by the Santaluces Chiefs 23-8 on Friday night in Lantana. Both high schools are considered two of the best large-school football teams from Palm Beach County. 
     Palm Beach Central(3-1) made it 7-0 with 2:34 left in the first quarter. Quarterback Chance Rouston rushed through the left side of the line from two yards away. The Broncos defense got a safety with 5:13 to go in the second quarter for a 9-0 advantage. 
     Santaluces(3-1) gave up another touchdown early in the third quarter and trailed 16-0. The Broncos fumbled the ball and offensive lineman David Sorensen recovered it in the end zone for the score. A weather delay happened during the final quarter to stop the game. 
     The Chiefs will travel to the Seminole Ridge Hawks next week. The Broncos host the Jupiter Warriors in a district contest two weeks from now. 

Nationals Handle Marlins

     The Washington Nationals eased by the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Friday night at Nationals Park. The Marlins are in the middle of a seven-game road swing. 
     Washington(66-81) got two runs in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead. Luis Garcia Jr. was at-bat when Dylan Crews and Jose Tena scored on a catching error on first base
     Miami(55-93) closed it to 2-1 in the top of the fourth. Otto Lopez smashed a solo home run to left-center field on a 0-1 pitch for his fifth homer of the campaign. 
     The Nationals expanded their lead to 4-1 in the seventh inning with two more runs. Garcia walloped a solo homer to right field on a 0-1 count for his 16th home run this season. Jacob Young later knocked in Drew Millas with a base hit through the right side. 

Miami Central Dominates Pompano Beach

     The Miami Central Rockets made the trip to Broward County and destroyed the Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes 63-0 on Thursday night. It was a battle between two District 15-3A teams. 
     Miami Central(3-1, 1-0) controlled the game from the beginning and held Pompano Beach(1-3, 0-1) from scoring. The Rockets will be tested next week when they host the American Heritage Patriots at Traz Powell Stadium next week. The Golden Tornadoes will visit Coral Springs Prep for their next contest. 

Dwyer Shuts Out Royal Palm Beach

     The Dwyer Panthers went on the road and upset the Royal Palm Beach Wildcats 21-0 in a District 12-6A matchup on Thursday night. The Panthers entered the contest winless while the Wildcats were undefeated. 
     Dwyer(1-3, 1-0) took a 7-0 during the second quarter. Quarterback Koden Brown threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Raoul Brown. 
     Royal Palm Beach(3-1, 0-1) surrendered 14 more points in the second quarter. Panthers running back Sylvio Joseph scored on two rushing touchdowns. 
     The Panthers will renew their longtime rivalry with the Glades Central Raiders at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens next week. The Wildcats will host the Forest Hill Falcons in a week. 

Ducks PTO Mark Pysyk

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Mark Pysyk has signed a professional tryout offer with the Anaheim Ducks. He spent time last season with the Wilks-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Calgary Wranglers in the American Hockey League. 
     Pysyk was with the Panthers for four seasons from 2016-17 until 2019-20. He compiled 62 points in 192 contests with Florida.

Dwyane Wade Statue Unveiling

     The Miami Heat announced on Thursday when the organization will unveil the Dwyane Wade statue. It will happen on October 27 in front of Kaseya Center off Biscayne Boulevard. The Heat mentioned back in January that they would honor Wade in this fashion. Miami will host the Detroit Pistons the following day on October 28. 
     Wade captured three NBA title and five Eastern Conference championships with the team. He was inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023. 

Bills Buzz Dolphins

     The Buffalo Bills took the Miami Dolphins 31-10 at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night. Both clubs battled it out for first place in the AFC East Division last year. The Bills have won 12 of the past 13 games versus the Dolphins. 
     Buffalo(2-0) scored on their first possession at the 9:49 mark of the opening quarter. Quarterback Josh Allen tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Miami Central High School grad and running back James Cook on the left side. 
     Miami(1-1) tied it up 7-7 with 3:21 left in the first. Quarterback threw a short pass to running back De'Von Achane on the right side for a five-yard score. 
     The second quarter belonged to the Bills as they compiled 17 unanswered points for a 24-7 lead. Tyler Bass booted a 43-yard field goal at 12:41. Cook rushed up the middle from one yard out with 6:25 remaining. They reached the end zone again with 3:36 to go when Cook sprinted down the right hash marks from 49 yards away. The Fins would get a 34-yard field goal from Jason Sanders with four seconds left in second and they trailed 24--10 at halftime. 
     It would become 31-10 for Buffalo at the 9:27 mark of the third quarter. Ja'Marcus Ingram intercepted a pass and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown. 

Brett de Geus Moves To Blue Jays

     The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed pitcher Brett de Geus off waivers from the Miami Marlins. He has joined his third baseball team this year.

Marlins Rebound On Nationals

     The Miami Marlins bounced back against the Washington Nationals 6-3 at Nationals Park on Thursday night. It is the first contest of a four-game weekend series. 
     Both teams are on the bottom of the National League East Division. The Marlins have already been eliminated from postseason contention. The Nationals will not have a winning record in 2024. 
     Washington(69-81) ran out to a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Dylan Crews got an infield hit to score C.J. Abrams. Three batters later, Jose Tena knocked in Crews and James Wood on a double off the left-field wall. 
     Miami(55-92) chipped away at the three-run margin with two runs in the top of the third. Connor Norby grounded out to short and Nick Fortes reached home. Jonah Bride followed with a sacrifice fly to right field which scored Javier Sanoja. 
     The Marlins leaped the lead in the top of the eighth. Bride singled up the middle and Xavier Edwards crossed the plate to even it up 3-3. Two batters later, Lopez grounded into a force out, however Norby and Bride scored on a throwing error. 
     The Fish picked up an insurance run in the ninth inning and led 6-3. Norby drove in Griffin Conine on a sacrifice fly into right field

Panthers To Add Matt Luff

     The Florida Panthers are expected to give right wing Matt Luff a professional tryout offer. The Panthers look to expand their forward depth chart for the 2024-25 preseason. 
     Luff has played in the National Hockey League for five seasons. He was with the Los Angeles Kings for his first three seasons followed by a campaign with the Nashville Predators. Luff participated in 19 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season and had four points. 

Malik Williams Inks With Heat

     Malik Williams has signed a contract with the Miami Heat. It has an Exhibit 10 clause in the deal between him and the club. 
     It is a return for Williams to the Miami Heat organization. He participated for most the 2023-24 campaign with their G League affiliate the Sioux City Skyforce. 
     Williams did make his NBA debut with the Toronto Raptors late last season. He finished with 2.7 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game in seven contests. 

Marcus Garrett Heads To Hornets

     Former Miami Heat guard Marcus Garrett will be signing with the Charlotte Hornets. It is expected to be a one-year deal. 
     Garrett broke into the National Basketball Association with the Heat last season. He ended up with 1.1 points per game and 1.9 rebounds per game in 2023-24. 

Pirates Season Sweep Marlins

     The Pittsburgh Pirates swept the Miami Marlins 3-1 at PNC Park on Wednesday. The Marlins lost every contest in the three-game series and were winless against the Pirates on seven occasions this season. It was the first time that the Bucs had swept the Marlins in a season series. 
     In the first inning, the Pirates had a 2-0 lead. Oneil Cruz walked with the bases loaded and Bryan Reynolds crossed the plate. Connor Joe followed with a sacrifice fly to center field and Joey Bart scored. 
     Pittsburgh(69-76) increased their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second. Jared Triolo socked a solo home run to left field on a 2-0 pitch for his eighth homer of the year. 
     Miami(54-92) was able to break the shutout with two outs in the top of the ninth. Cristian Pache knocked in Otto Lopez with a base hit up the middle.

49ers Release Jonathan Garvin

     The San Francisco 49ers have released defensive lineman Jonathan Garvin. He signed a one-year contract with the team on August 8. 
     Garvin played high school football with the Lake Worth Trojans and college football with the University of Miami Hurricanes. He spent three seasons with the Green Bay Packers from 2020 to 2022. He helped the Birmingham Stallions capture the United Football League championship earlier this year. 

Shannon Spake Joining Bally Sports Southeast

     Shannon Spake will be joining Bally Sports Southeast as the Charlotte Hornets studio host and sideline reporter. It is a return for her to the Queen City. Spake once worked at WCCB-TV along with Carolina Sports & Entertainment Television. 
     Spake began her broadcasting career as an intern for the Neil Rogers Show on Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM in South Florida. She later held positions at Speed and ESPN. Spake, a Piper High School and Florida Atlantic University grad, recently finished a long reign at Fox Sports as a NASCAR studio host and NFL sideline reporter. 

Miami Marlins Claim Michael Petersen

     The Miami Marlins have claimed relief pitcher Michael Petersen from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Fish continued to improve their pitching staff. 
     Petersen was able to play Major League Baseball for the first time in 2024. He compiled a 3-0 record with a 6.43 earned run average in 11 relief appearances with the Dodgers. 

Pirates Beat Marlins

     The Pitsburgh Pirates blitzed the Miami Marlins 6-4 on Tuesday night at PNC Park The Marlins have lost five of their last eight games. The Pirates are 6-0 against the Fish this season. 
     Pittsburgh(69-76) rumbled out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame. Oneil Cruz grounded out to second for Isiah Kiner-Falefa to score. Two batters later, Joey Bart grounded into a fielder's choice and Bryan Reynold reached home. 
     Miami(54-91) scored in the top of the fifth and made it 2-1. Jhonny Pereda drove in Kyle Stowers with a base hit into right field. 
     The Pirates added four runs during the bottom of the fifth and led 6-1. Reynolds singled up the middle and Jared Triolo crossed the plate. Two batters later, Andrew McCutchen powered a three-run homer with Reynolds and Cruz aboard. It was the 10ht season that McCutchen has reached the 20-homer mark. 
     The Marlins added three runs in the top of the sixth and trailed 6-3. Jonah Bride hit a sacrifice fly into left field and Jake Burger scored. Stowers followed and knocked in Otto Lopez on a double down the left-field line. 
     In the ninth inning, Miami put up one more run. Burger singled through the left side and Pereda touched home.

Marlins Lose Austin Kitchen

     The Seattle Mariners have claimed pitcher Austin Kitchen from the Miami Marlins. He had spent most of the 2024 season since June with their Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville. 
     Kitchen did get called up to the majors for the first time this season in July. He was able to make four pitching appearances and had a 14.14 earned run average, 

Pirates Sail By Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 at PNC Park on Monday night. It was the beginning of a seven-game road trip for the Marlins. 
     Pittsburgh(68-76) raced out to a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second. Oneil Cruz hammered a solo home run on a 1-2 pitch to center field for his 19th homer of the campaign. 
     The Bucs made it 3-0 in the second inning. Bryan Reynolds drove in Alika Williams and Nick Gonzales on a base hit into right field.
     Miami(54-90) closed it to 3-1 in the top of the fourth. Jesus Sanchez scored on an Otto Lopez single into right field. 
     The Marlins added another run in the ninth inning, however they fell short. Cristian Pache doubled into left field and Sanchez crossed the plate.

Dolphins Get By Jaguars

     The Miami Dolphins edged the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-17 at Hard Rock Stadium in their 2024 season opener on Sunday. 
     Jacksonville(0-1) moved out to a 7-0 lead with 4:31 left in the first quarter. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. rushed through the left side of the line from one yard away. 
     In the second quarter, the Jaguars made it 14-0 with 6:21 to go. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. in the back left corner of the end zone. 
     Miami(1-0) cut it to 14-7 with 1:04 remaining in the quarter. Running back De'Von Achane plunged through the middle from one yard out. Jacksonville returned it to a 10-point margin when Cam Little kicked a 53-yard kick with no seconds left in the first half. 
     The Dolphins closed it to 17-14 at 2:08 of the third quarter. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa connected an 80-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill on the left sideline. 
     The Fins would later pull ahead during the fourth quarter to win the game. Jason Sanders booted a 37-yard field goal with 4:22 remaining to tie it up 17-17. He then kicked a go-ahead, 52-yard field goal with no time remaining in the game. 

Phillies Clobbered By Marlins

     The Miami Marlins pounded the Philadelphia Phillies 10-1 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins finished off a six-game homestand with a 3-3 record. 
     Miami(54-89) broke out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame. Connor Norby cracked a two-run homer to left-center field on a 1-2 count with Xavier Edwards aboard for his seventh home run of the campaign. 
     It became 3-0 for the Fish during the bottom of the second. Edwards hit a sacrifice fly to left field for Javier Sanoja to score. 
     In the third inning, the Marlins added seven more runs for a 10-run margin. It was capped by another two-run home run by Norby to left-center field on the first pitch. 
     Philadelphia(85-58) gained one run in the top of the ninth to break the shutout. Bryce Harper singled up the middle to score Johan Rojas.

Miami Central Outscores Booker T. Washington

     The Miami Central Rockets outpaced the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes 55-25 at Traz Powell Stadium on Saturday night. Both high schools have been state football championship contenders for the past 20 years. 
     Miami Central(2-1) visit the Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes on Friday. Booker T. Washington(1-1) will face the Immaculata-La Salle Lions on Thursday in a District 15-2A contest. 

Atlantic Routs North Miami Beach

     The Atlantic Eagles easily handled the North Miami Beach Chargers 43-7 at Atlantic Stadium on Friday night. Both high schools have faced each other on the gridiron for the past three seasons. 
     Atlantic(3-0) piled on 24 points in the first quarter and 19 points in the second quarter for a 43-0 halftime lead. North Miami Beach(0-2) picked up a touchdown during the second half to avoid the shutout. 

Hurricanes Blow Out Florida A&M

     The University of Miami Hurricanes held their 2024 home opener on Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium. The Canes walloped the Florida A&M Rattlers 56-9. 
     Miami(2-0) had a 15-3 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led 25-6 at halftime. Florida A&M(2-1) were outscored 21-3 during the third quarter and trailed the Hurricanes 46-9. 

Marlins Streak By Phillies

     The Miami Marlins upended the Philadelphia Phillies 9-5 on Saturday at loanDepot park. The Phillies had outscored the Marlins 21-4 in the prior two games. 
     Philadelphia(85-57) had their six-game winning streak snapped and lead the New York Mets by seven games in the National League East Division. Miami(53-89) no longer has the worst record in the National League standings. 

Jalen Ramsey Extended

     Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey recently had his contract extended. It is a three-year contract extension worth $72.9 million. He is once again the highest paid cornerback in the National Football League. 
     He participated in 10 games and had three interceptions in his first seasons with the Fins. Ramsey was acquired by Miami from the Los Angeles Rams in March 2023.

West Palm Beach Ratings August 2024

     The radio ratings were released for sports talk radio stations in the West Palm Beach area. The time span was from the third week of July to the second week of August. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM remained at a 0.4 in the month for the third straight time. Syndicated Fox Sports Radio flooded its airwaves with the Florida Atlantic University football season around the corner. 
     Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM fell from a 0.4 to a 0.2 in the period. VSIN has been piped in for most of their programming. The Miami Marlins were last in the National League East Division and second-to-last in the National League. 

St. Thomas Aquinas Crushes Columbus

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders canned the Columbus Explorers 42-6 on Friday night at Simmons Family Field. These South Florida high school football powerhouses had met just one time. STA defeated Columbus 38-28 back on August 31, 2012. 
     Both teams captured FHSAA state football championships last year. The Raiders won their state-record fifth consecutive state title in 2023 by taking Class 3M. The Explorers captured the Class 4M championship. 

Phillies Pound Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies dominated the Miami Marlins 16-2 at loanDepot park on Friday night. It was the second game of a four-game series between both teams. 
     The Phillies are currently on a six-game winning streak. The Marlins have been victorious in five of their last 11 contests. 
     Philadelphia(85-56) blasted out to a seven-run margin early. They compiled three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning. 
     Miami(52-89) broke up the shutout during the bottom of the fourth. The Phillies piled on with three runs in the top of the fifth and four runs in the top of the sixth for a 14-1 lead.

Somerset Academy Canyons Stops Key West

     The Somerset Academy Cauyons Cougars sailed by the Key West Conchs 20-14 in Boynton Beach on Thursday night. It was the first contest ever between both high schools. 
     Somerset Academy Canyons(2-1) will host the Inlet Grove Hurricanes in a District 11-2A game next Friday night. Key West(1-2) will visit the Belen Jesuit Wolverines next Thursday in Miami. 

Phillies Down Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies dropped the Miami Marlins 5-2 at loanDepot park on Thursday night. It was the beginning of a four-game series between both teams. The Phillies have won five consecutive games. 
     Philadelphia(84-56) leaped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Bryson Stott sliced a single into left field for Park Vista High School grad Trea Turner to score. 
     The Phillies added four more runs during the top of the sixth for a five-run margin. Stott powered a solo home run to right field on a 2-1 pitch for 11th homer of the season. Three batters later, Kody Clemens doubled into the left-field corner which scored J.T. Realmuto and Brandon Marsh. Clemens would later cross the plate on a wild pitch. 
     Miami(52-88) broke the shutout in the bottom of the seventh. Jesus Sanchez drove in Griffin Conine with a base hit into center field. 
     The Marlins made it 5-2 in the eighth inning. Jake Burger scored on a throwing error during an Otto Lopez at-bat. 

Heat Pick Up Rookie Options

     The Miami Heat decided to pick up the options on rookies Jaime Jacquez Jr. and Nikola Jovic. The club executed the team options of both players for the 2025-26 season.
     Jacquez averaged 11.9 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game during his rookie campaign. Jovic ended up with 7.7 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game in his first season. 

Matt Cullen In USA Hockey Hall Of Fame

     One-time Florida Panthers center Matt Cullen has been elected to the USA Hockey Hall of Fame. He will be inducted on December 4 in Pittsburgh. 
     Cullen was with the Panthers for two seasons in 2002-03 and 2003-04. He compiled 12 goals and 19 assists for 31 points in 86 games with Florida. 
     He finished his NHL career with three Stanley Cup titles. They were with the Carolina Hurricanes(2005-06) and the Pittsburgh Penguins(2015-16 & 2016-17). 

Devils Take Michael Hutchinson

     The New Jersey Devils have given goalie Michael Hutchinson a professional tryout offer. He will report to the Devils training camp in a couple of weeks. 
     Hutchinson was once was the Florida Panthers organization in 2018-19. He had a 1-1-2 record and a 4.17 goals-against-average in four contests before being dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs in December 2018. 

Emmanuel Ramirez Off To Blue Jays

     Miami Marlins relief pitcher Emmanuel Ramirez has been claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. The Fish designated him for assignment several days ago. 
     Ramirez got to the majors for the first time this year. He had a 0-1 record with a 6.95 earned run average in 15 games this season. 

Marc Staal Retires

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Marc Staal has announced retirement from the National Hockey League after 17 seasons. He participated last season with the Philadelphia Flyers. Staal will be joining the New York Rangers as a player development assistant. 
     Staal spent the 2022-23 campaign with Florida along with his brother Eric Staal. He helped the club win the Eastern Conference title that season. Staal played in all 82 regular season contests and compiled 15 points with the Panthers.

Dominic Moore Utah Hockey Club Announcer

     Former Florida Panthers center Dominic Moore has been named the new television game analyst of the Utah Hockey Club. The Arizona Coyotes moved to Utah during the offseason. 
     He was an NHL studio analyst and game analyst at NBC Sports Network during the 2020-21 campaign. Moore would work as an NHL game analyst with ESPN over the past couple of seasons. 
     Moore played just one season with the Panthers in 2009-10. He finished with eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 48 games before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens. 

Marlins Split Nationals

     The Miami Marlins got by the Washington Nationals 4-3 in 10 innings on Wednesday night at loanDepot park and avoided a two-game series sweep. The Marlins will host the Philadelphia Phillies in a four-game series beginning tomorrow. 
     Miami(52-87) one run in the sixth inning and seventh inning. Washington(62-77) took the lead 3-2 during the top of the eighth with three runs. 
     The Marlins evened it up 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth. The Fish ended up winning contest in the bottom of the 10th. 

Miami Ratings August 2024

     The Miami/Fort Lauderdale region sports talk radio stations received their ratings. The time span went from the third week in July to the second week in August. 
     AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM dropped from a 1.3 to a 0.9. The local buzz began to slow down since the Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup. Inter Miami CF remained on top of the Major League Soccer standings. The reigning League Cup champs were eliminated by the Columbus Crew.
     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM rose to a 0.7 after three straight months at a 0.5. WINZ tied their all-time high in ratings with a sports format back in December 2011 and October 2012. The Miami Dolphins opened up their 2024 preseason schedule. The Miami Marlins stayed near the basement in the National League standings. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM increased to a 0.3 after three consecutive months with a 0.1. The Andy Slater Show was their only local program while they continued with no play-by-play broadcasters during the summer. 
     The WQAM stream lost a complete share from a 1.3 to a 0.3. WZTU-FM-HD2 had the WINZ simulcast and it stayed at a 0.1 for the second straight month. 

TNT Sports Adding Shannon Spake

     TNT Sports has increased their talent roster by adding Shannon Spake as a NASCAR studio host. The network will broadcast NASCAR races beginning next year.
     Spake, a Piper High School and Florida Atlantic University grad, broke into the broadcasting industry as an intern on The Neil Rogers Show at Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM. She recently was a NASCAR studio host and NFL sideline reporter at Fox Sports until July. 

Peacock Adds Dan Le Batard Show With Stugotz

     The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz has expanded their podcast to other media channels. The program will be streamed by Peacock on the NBC Sports Channel for three hours starting at noon following the Dan Patrick Show. It will also be aired on SiriusXM Radio. 
     Dan Le Batard and Stugotz recently celebrated their 20th anniversary together. They began to co-host an afternoon show on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in August 2004. It was moved to the midday shift in September 2015 and remained on the radio station until August 2019. The show was on 560 WQAM-AM from August 2019 to January 2021. 
     The program became nationally syndicated by ESPN Radio in September 2013. It would stay on that network until January 2021. Le Batard then launched Meadowlark Media along with John Skipper later that month.

1700 The Fan 25th Anniversary

     One-time Miami sports talk radio station 1700 The Fan WAFN-AM had its 25th anniversary this week. It lasted for over one year and flipped from a sports format at the end of December 2000. 
     1700 The Fan had on-air talent and management that went on to other ventures. They included Jorge Sedano, Armando Salguero, Jim Berry, John Renshaw, John DeCandido, Ike Griffin, Craig Mish, Manny Munoz, Dave Hagen, David Veit, Tomas Regalado Jr., Tony Calatayud Sr. and Orestes Destrade. 

Luis Suarez Retires From Uruguay

     Inter Miami CF forward Luis Suarez announced his retirement from the Uruguay National Soccer Team on Monday. He represented his country in international play for 17 years. Suarez will play his final game for Uruguay on Friday against Paraguay. 
     Suarez is playing his first season with Inter Miami CF and is near the top for Major League Soccer goals with 16. He joined the Herons with former FC Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets on the squad. 

Marlins Eliminated By Nationals

     The Miami Marlins were eliminated from postseason contention by the Washington Nationals 6-2 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. It was the beginning of a two-game series between both clubs. The Marlins went 4-3 on their recent seven-game road trip prior to this contest. 
     Washington(62-76) got one run in the top of the third and three runs in the top of the fourth for a 4-0 advantage. Miami(51-87) trailed 5-2 after they picked up a run each in the fifth and sixth innings. 
     

Johnny Cueto Exiting Angels

     Former Miami Marlins pitcher Johnny Cueto has decided to become a free agent and leave the Los Angeles Angels. He was designated for assignment a couple of days ago. 
     Cueto participated with the Marlins during the 2023 campaign. He chalked up a 1-4 record with a 6.02 earned run average in 13 games pitched. 

Steven Lorentz Leaving For Toronto

     Former Florida Panthers left wing Stephen Lorentz is expected to get a professional tryout offer from the Toronto Maple Leafs. He has been a free agent since July 1. 
     He was acquired by the Panthers from the San Jose Sharks for Anthony Declair prior to the 2023-24 season. Lorentz helped Florida capture their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history. He finished with one goal and two assists for three points in 38 regular season games with the Cats. Lorentz compiled two goals and one assist during 16 playoff contests with Florida. 

Colin Russo & Michael Rizzo Launch Show

     ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM will have a new weekday schedule staring today. Russo & Rizzo with Colin Russo and Michael Rizzo will be on afternoon drive from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Theoretically Speaking with Theo Dorsey and Christian Katt was moved to mid-afternoons from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 
     Russo started his on-air duties with that radio station on August 16 as the high school football studio host. He will also begin as a Sunday midday host prior to NFL games this Sunday. Rizzo will be making his on-air debut at ESPN West Palm today. Dorsey and Katt began their program back on April 8.

Jean Segura Gone From Orioles

     The Baltimore Orioles have released infielder Jean Segura. He signed a minor league contract with the team on August 9 and never reached the majors. 
     Segura played one season with the Miami Marlins in 2023. He had three home runs, 21 runs batted in and a .219 batting average in 85 games last year.

Marlins Jam Giants

     The Miami Marlins beat the San Francisco Giants 7-5 at Oracle Park on Sunday. The Marlins finished with a 4-3 record during their seven-game road swing. 
     It was the first series win for Miami(51-86) in over a month. The Fish will have tomorrow off and will begin a homestand on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. San Francisco(68-70) hosts the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. 

Tyler Huntley Rejoining Ravens

     Former Broward County high school football player Tyler Huntley will be rejoining the Baltimore Ravens. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as a free agent back in March and was released several days ago. 
     Huntley played high school football as a quarterback with the Hallandale Chargers. They clinched the District 15-6A title in 2014 over the Boynton Beach Tigers, who were led by current Ravens starting quarterback Lamar Jackson. Huntley went on to play college football with the University of Utah. 
     He was inked by Baltimore as an undrafted free agent in May 2020. Huntley participated in 20 contests over four seasons with the Ravens.
