The Miami Marlins bounced back against the Washington Nationals 6-3 at Nationals Park on Thursday night. It is the first contest of a four-game weekend series.
Both teams are on the bottom of the National League East Division. The Marlins have already been eliminated from postseason contention. The Nationals will not have a winning record in 2024.
Washington(69-81) ran out to a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Dylan Crews got an infield hit to score C.J. Abrams. Three batters later, Jose Tena knocked in Crews and James Wood on a double off the left-field wall.
Miami(55-92) chipped away at the three-run margin with two runs in the top of the third. Connor Norby grounded out to short and Nick Fortes reached home. Jonah Bride followed with a sacrifice fly to right field which scored Javier Sanoja.
The Marlins leaped the lead in the top of the eighth. Bride singled up the middle and Xavier Edwards crossed the plate to even it up 3-3. Two batters later, Lopez grounded into a force out, however Norby and Bride scored on a throwing error.
The Fish picked up an insurance run in the ninth inning and led 6-3. Norby drove in Griffin Conine on a sacrifice fly into right field
