The Tkachuk brothers and the Hughes brothers became the first set of brothers to participate in a Winter Olympics game for the United States since 1964. National Hockey League players have not been involved in Winter Olympics men's hockey play since 2014.
Team USA took a 1-0 lead at the 5:29 mark of the first period. Florida Panthers right wing Matthew Tkachuk slid a pass across the right point and his brother Ottawa Senators center Brady Tkachuk snapped a shot from the high slot past Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins.
Colorado Avalanche center Brock Nelson scored a power-play goal with 11.1 seconds remaining in the second period to make it 4-1. Tkachuk was credited with a secondary assist on the play.
