Pete Crow-Armstrong Joins 40/40 Club, Cubs Clinch

     Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong became the seventh member of the 40/40 club as the Miami Marlins fell to the Chicago Cubs 2-1 on Thursday at Wrigley Field. The Marlins finished off a long nine-game road trip and played their final away game of the season. 

     The Cubbies clinched a National League postseason spot with the victory. The White Sox clinched an American League playoff spot three minutes before the conclusion of this game. It is just the fourth time ever that both Chicago baseball teams made the postseason in the same year.

     The Fish could not complete a three-game series sweep and will not have a winning record in 2026. They will finish their season at home against the Atlanta Braves this weekend.

     Crow-Armstrong walked to lead off the bottom of the first and then stole his 40th stolen base of the 2026 season. He became the seventh player in Major League Baseball history to be a part of the 40/40 club. Crow-Armstrong joined Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Alfonso Soriano, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Shohei Ohtani on that list to compile at least 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season. 

     Miami(78-81) surged out to a 1-0 advantage in the top of the third. Jakob Marsee singled into center field to score Brian Navarreto.

     Chicago(88-71) evened it up 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Seiya Suzuki smashed a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-0 pitch for his 26th homer of the campaign.

     The Cubs moved in front 2-1 during the sixth inning. Nico Hoerner knocked in Ian Happ with a base hit into left field.
