St. Thomas Aquinas Smokes Deerfield Beach

The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders hammered the Deerfield Beach Bucks 38-6 at Butler Stadium on Friday night. Both schools are looked upon in Broward County to possibly win a FHSAA state championship this year.
St. Thomas Aquinas(5-1) scored on the first play of the game just 14 seconds into the first quarter. Wide receiver Xavier Restrepo got a pitch-out handoff from quarterback Curt Casteel and then fired an option pass to wide receiver Marcus Rosemy for a 50-yard touchdown.
A bad snap on a punt by the Bucks ended in their own end zone where linebacker Anthony Solomon recovered it for a score at the 8:23 mark. The touchdown gave the Raiders a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter, running back Daniel Carter pounded through the middle and scored from one yard away at 10:36. STA made it a 28-point margin with 58 seconds remaining in the second as running back Nigel White sprinted up the middle from eight yards out. Billy McConnell connected with a 26-yard field goal with two seconds left in the first half.
The Raiders continued to roll in the third quarter for a 38-0 lead. Quarterback Derohn King was stripped of the ball by Solomon and he returned it for his second touchdown of the game. A running clock was implemented for the rest of the contest.
Deerfield Beach(6-1) broke the shutout near the end of the third. King connected a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Dashaun Davis.
