Ottawa(9-16-1) had the first nine shots on goal and got out to a 1-0 lead at the 4:38 mark of the first period. Austin Watson picked up his second tally of the campaign on assists from Nick Paul and Thomas Chabot.
Florida(18-6-4) tied it up 1-1 with 6:55 remaining in the first. Lucas Carlsson pushed it ahead from the left point to Sam Reinhart on the left wing. He backhanded it from the low left circle and Jonathan Huberdeau put in a forehand shot from the top of the crease for his 10th goal of the season. Huberdeau was able to extend his point streak up to six games.
In the second period, the Senators reclaimed the lead 2-1 on a shorthanded goal at 1:30. Connor Brown sent a lead pass from his own zone and Dylan Gambrell scored on a breakaway with a snap shot for his first goal in an Ottawa uniform.
The Panthers evened it 2-2 with 4:27 go in the second. Reinhart intercepted a pass near the Senators net and made a back pass. Anton Lundell took a shot from the slot area which was saved and Reinhart slid in the rebound from the left of the crease for his ninth goal this season.
The Sens pulled ahead 39 seconds later. Josh Norris dashed through the center circle, raced into the inner right circle and placed in a forehand hand from the crease for his 13th goal this year.
It became 4-2 for Ottawa with 2:24 left in the period. Brown angled a pass back from the low left circle and Tim Stutzle snapped a shot from the high slot
Ottawa expanded to 5-2 just 23 seconds into the third period. Norris got his second goal of the contest on a Drake Batheson assist.
The Senators made it a four-goal margin at the 6:10 mark of the third. Norris stole the puck from Spencer Knight behind the Panthers cage and centered it. Batherson would release a wrist shot from the slot area for his ninth goal of the season.
Brady Tkachuk added a 5-on-3 power-play tally from the left of the crease with 5:36 remaining. Paul added another 5-on-3 power-play goal with 5:03 left to make it 8-2.
