Damon Amendolara Leaving SiriusXM Radio

     Former Miami sports talk radio host Damon Amendolara is leaving SiriusXM Radio. He has co-hosted the morning show on Mad Dog Radio since October 2023. 
     Amendolara was once on the 560 WQAM-AM airwaves. He held the late night host and weekend host positions at that radio station from early 2008 until August 2009.

     Two defending state champions faced each other of the football gridiron on Friday night in Broward County. The two-time defending FHSAA Class 4A state champions the American Heritage Patriots xxxxxxx the reigning two-time FHSAA Class 6A state champions the West Boca Raton Bulls xx-xx at Bill Laurie Stadium in Plantation.

St. Thomas Aquinas xxxxx Western

     The defending FHSAA Class 5A state champions the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders went on the road and xxxxxx the Western Wildcats xx-xx on Friday night in Davie. The Raiders began their march to win a state-record eighth consecutive state title and state-record 18th overall high school football state championship.

Cardinal Newman xxxxx Community School Of Naples

     The reigning FHSAA Class 1A state champions the Carinal Newman Crusaders xxxxx the Community School of Naples Seahawks xx-xx at Sam Budnyk Field in West Palm Beach on Friday night. There was a minor ceremony prior to the game in honor of Cardinal Newman's first state football title in school history. 
     Both squads meet in the FHSAA Class 1A regional semifinals last year. The Crusaders were victorious in that contest by the score of 45-14.

49ers Add Khalil Herbert

     Former Broward County high school football running back Khalil Herbert has rejoined the San Francisco 49ers. He was signed and released by the Niners earlier this month. 
     Herbert played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots. He won two straight FHSAA Class 5A state championships with them in 2013 and 2014. 
     He was with the University of Kansas from 2016 to 2019. Herbert finished college football with Virginia Tech University in 2020. 
     Herbert was taken by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent his first four seasons with the Bears from 2021 to 2024. Herbert played for the Cincinnati Bengals during 2024 and the New York Jets in 2025. 

Palm Beach Central Gets By Glades Central

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos squeezed by the Glades Central Raiders 14-9 at Bronco Stadium on Thursday night. The longtime rivalry continued between two recognizable high school football programs in South Florida. 
     The start of the contest was not started for one hour due to a lightning delay. This was the first night of regular season high school football games in Palm Beach County. 
     Palm Beach Central(1-0) will visit the Park Vista Cobras next week. Glades Central(0-1) has their home opener in a week against John Carroll Catholic. 

Chaminade-Madonna Slams Monarch

      It was the first day of Broward County regular season high school football games this year as the Chaminade-Madonna Lions dismantled the Monarch Knights 49-22 on Thursday night at Don Conkel Stadium at Coconut Creek High School. The contest was held at a neutral site because Monarch does not have a football field on their campus. 
     Chaminade-Madonna(1-0) rolled out to a 14-0 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The Lions scored early in the second quarter when quarterback Brady Quinn threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tromon Isaac Jr. and they led 21-0. 
     Monarch(0-1) got on the scoreboard with a 60-yard touchdown strike and they trailed 21-6. Both teams then exchanged touchdowns on their next possessions. Chaminade-Madonna got a 50-yard touchdown pass while the Knights picked up a two-yard touchdown toss and a two-point conversion run to make it 28-14. 
     The Lions added two more touchdowns and made it 42-14 late in the second.  The second score was a Quinn 11-yard pass to wide receiver Armani Strong. 
     In the second half, Chaminade-Madonna increased their lead to 49-14 in the opening minute of the third quarter. Wide receiver Peter Pierre caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Quinn. 
     The Knights quickly answered back and they were down 49-22. Wide receiver Chris Cortinas made an 80-yard touchdown reception. It was followed by a two-point conversion pass. A weather delay due to lightning stopped the contest in the third. 

Jon Berti Retiring

     Former Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti has announced his retirement from professional baseball. He was with the Marlins for five seasons from 2019 to 2023. 
     He helped Miami reach the postseason twice in 2020 and 2023. Berti contributed to the New York Yankees winning the American League pennant in 2024. He led Major League Baseball in stolen bases with 41 back in 2022. 

Myles Gaskin Finishes NFL Career

     Former Miami Dolphins running back Myles Gaskin has announced his retirement from the National Football League. He was with the Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks over the past three years. Gaskin captured a Super Bowl title with Seattle last season participating in one regular season game. 
     Gaskin was selected in the seventh round by the Fins during the 2019 NFL Draft. He would play four seasons with Miami from 2019 until 2022. Gaskins compiled 361 catches for 1,355 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns in 38 contests with the Dolphins. He also had 101 pass receptions for 701 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.

Zane Gonzalez Released By Fins

     The Miami Dolphins have released kicker Zane Gonzalez. The club agreed to an injury settlement with Gonzalez. 
     He has been in the National Football League since the 2017 season. Gonzalez had stints with the Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons. 

Commanders Release River Cracraft

     The Washington Commanders have released wide receiver River Cracraft. The team has given Cracraft an injury settlement. 
     Cracraft was with the Miami Dolphins for three seasons from 2022 to 2024. He collected 25 catches for 289 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 29 games. 

Christian Bethancourt Traded

     The New York Yankees have traded catcher Christian Bethnacourt to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations. He has not played in the majors this season. 
     Bethancourt was once with the Miami Marlins during the 2024 regular season. He ended up with two home runs, seven runs batted in and a .159 batting average in 38 contests. 

Joe Raineri Joins Sport & State

     Former local radio on-air talent Joe Raineri has joined Sport & State. It is a new company that was launched by Clay Travis today. Raineri co-hosts an afternoon program called On Tilt with Ariel Epstein and Kelly Stewart. 
     Raineri has worked in the South Florida market for the past 15 years. He was the morning co- host on WRMF-FM in West Palm Beach from 2011 until 2014. 
     He joined 640 Sports WMEN-AM in November 2014 as an afternoon host taking over for Steve White. He was moved to the midday shift in May 2015 and then returned to afternoon drive in August 2015 replacing Hank Goldberg. Raineri was elevated to morning co-host alongside Steve Zemach in January 2016 and they held those positions until March 2017. 
     Raineri was a morning disc jockey on WBGF-FM and WZFL-FM from May 2017 to June 2018. He became a studio co-host of The Morning After show on FNTSY Sports Radio Network and SportsGrid in 2018 and held that position until early 2026.  

Inter Miami CF Ties Philadelphia Union

     Inter Miami CF tied the Philadelphia Union 2-2 at Subaru Park on Wednesday night. The Herons snapped a three-game losing streak throughout all of their competitive contests. 
     In the first half, Philadelphia(5-10-5) rumbled out to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of play. Frankie Westfield crossed the ball from the right side and Indiana Vassilev volleyed in a right-footed shot from seven yards out. 
     Inter Miami CF(11-3-6) evened it up in the 21st minute of play. Daniel Pinter tapped in a two-yard shot with his right foot following assists from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. 
     The Herons jumped to their first lead of the contest 2-1 in the 26th minute. Messi dribbled in the penalty area and then drilled a left-footed shot from 10 yards away into the low left corner of the cage. 
     In the second half, the Union made it a tie game 2-2 in the 58th minute. Neil Pierre was able to get the tally. 

Phillies Sweep Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies pulled off a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins finished off a six-game road trip and fell more behind in the National League Wild-Card race. 
     Philadelphia(70-58) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Garrett Stubbs picked up an infield base hit to short and Luis Arraez reached home.
     It became 3-0 for the Phillies during the third inning. Arraez ripped a two-run homer to right field on a 2-2 pitch with Bryce Harper aboard. It turned out to be the sixth home run this year for Arraez. 
     Miami(64-64) made it 3-1 in the top of the sixth. Javier Sanoja smacked a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 count for his sixth homer of the seasons. 
     The Phils expanded their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Turner knocked in Kyle Schwarber with a double into the left-center field gap.

Trey Mancini Retires

     One-time Miami Marlins player Trey Mancini has retired from professional baseball. He was with the Baltimore Orioles for most of his Major League Baseball career from 2016 to 2022. He was dealt to the Houston Astros late in the 2022 campaign and captured a World Series title with them. 
     Mancini was signed by the Miami Marlins in January 2024 and attended their spring training camp in Jupiter. He opted out of his minor league contract when he did not make the Marlins Major League Baseball roster four days before the start of the regular season.  

Dolphins Ink Mark Gronowski Again

     The Miami Dolphins signed quarterback Mark Gronowski again over the weekend. He was an undrafted free agent. Gronowski participated in the Dolphins spring practice and their first week of training camp. 
     Gronowski went to South Dakota State University from 2020 to 2024. He spent his final season in college football with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes in 2025. 

Phillies Get By Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies edged the Miami Marlins 6-4 on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins conclude a six-game road swing tomorrow. 
     Philadelphia(69-58) raced out to a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Alec Bohm singled into left field and Bryce Harper reached home. 
     Miami(64-63) evened it up 1-1 in the second inning. Griffin Conine socked a solo home run to center field on a 0-2 pitch for his 14th homer of the campaign. 
     The Marlins picked up one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning for a 3-1 lead. Xavier Edwards knocked in Brian Navarreto on a single into left-center field. In the sixth, Heriberto Hernandez grounded out into a force out and Otto Lopez to scored on a throwing error by Luis Arraez. 
     The Phillies answered back in the bottom of the sixth with four runs and they leaped to a 5-3 lead. Bohm doubled into left-center field and Trea Turner raced home. Bryson Stott followed with a base hit up the middle for Arraez and Bohm to score. Three batters later, Justin Crawford drove in Stott on a single through the left side.  
     The Fish closed it to 5-4 in the top of the eighth. Hernandez singled into center field and Conine scored. 
     In the bottom of the eighth, the Phils increased their lead to 6-4. Kyle Schwarber picked up a base hit into left field and Stott touched home.

Shemar Jean-Charles On Seahawks

      Former Broward County high school defensive back Shemar Jean-Charles is playing with the Seattle Seahawks. He participated with the Miramar Patriots while in high school. Jean-Charles later attended Appalachian State University for college football. 
     He made previous stops in the National Football League. Jean-Charles had stints with the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.
