Marlins Shock Dodgers

     The Miami Marlins surprised the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in a walk-off victory on Sunday at loanDepot park. The Marlins won two contests in a three-game weekend series against the reigning two-time World Series champion Dodgers. The Fish completed a long nine-game homestand.    

     Dodgers infielder and former Marlins player Miguel Rojas played his final game ever in Miami. He will retire at the end of the season.

     Los Angeles((90-59) posted three runs in the top of the third and led 3-0. Josue De Paula hammered his first career Major League Baseball home run on a 2-2 pitch to right field. Will Smith and Kyle Tucker scored in front of him on the play. 

     Miami(74-76) began the comeback with two runs in the eighth inning to make it 3-2. Otto Lopez singled into center field with the bases loaded to score Joe Mark and Esteury Ruiz. 

     The Dodgers added an additional run in the top of the ninth for a 4-2 advantage. Mookie Betts hit a ground-rule double to right field and Alex Freeland crossed the plate. 

     Marlins finished off the come-from-behind win during the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off victory. Javier Sanoja knocked in Xavier Edwards and Jakob Marsee on a double down the left-field line to tie it up 4-4. Pinch-hitter Agustin Ramirez came up next and blasted a two-run homer to left-center field on a 2-1 count to conclude the game. 

Raiders Race By Dolphins

     The Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Miami Dolphins 27-13 on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Both teams opened up their 2026 regular season campaigns. 

     Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley coached his first game with his new organization. Klint Kubiak was at the helm for the first time with the Raiders. 

     Las Vegas(1-0) got the only score of the first quarter with 1:33 left for a 7-0 lead. Quarterback Kirk Cousins connected a 15-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jack Bech on the right side. 

    In the second quarter, the Raiders extended their lead to 10-0 at 10:22 on a 47-yard field goal from Matt Gay. Miami(0-1) closed it to 10-3 with a 41-yard field goal by Riley Patterson with 4:08 remaining. 

     It became 17-3 for Las Vegas with 1:07 left in the second. Cousins fired a 13-yard touchdown pass to running back Ashton Jeanty in the middle of the field. Patterson answered back with no time remaining in the first half on a 37-yard field goal and the Fins trailed 17-6.

     In the second half, the Dolphins cut the deficit down to 17-13 at the 12:44 mark of the third quarter. Quarterback Malik Willis, playing his first game with his new club, rushed around the right end and down the right sideline on a 14-yard touchdown run.

     The Raiders would pull away from the Fins with 9:58 to go in the third. Jeanty caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Cousins on the left side to make it 24-13. Gay would kick a 30-yard field goal with 2:34 remaining in the quarter which gave them a 27-13 advantage. 

Alonzo Gee In Minnesota

     Former Palm Beach County high school basketball player Alonzo Gee continued to be associated with the National Basketball Association. He has worked in basketball operations with the Minnesota Timberwolves. 

     Gee participated in high school basketball with the Dwyer Panthers. He later played college basketball with the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. 

     He was with six different teams during his eight-season NBA playing career. Clubs included the Washington Wizards(twice), San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets(twice), Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans. 

Inter Miami CF Tie Nashville SC

     Inter Miami CF tied Nashville SC 2-2 at Nu Stadium on Saturday night. The top two teams in the Eastern Conference standings competed against each other. 

     It was the 13th time that both teams faced other in the last three seasons. The Herons have played four of their past five contests at home. 

     In the first half, Nashville SC(16-3-6) rocketed out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. Sam Surridge booted a right-footed shot from 12 yards out.

      Inter Miami CF(12-4-9) answered back in the 19th minute and tied it up 1-1. Lionel Messi took a corner kick from the right side and Reed Baker-Whiting headed the ball into his own cage for an own goal.

     The Herons moved ahead 2-1 in the 62nd minute of play. Rodrigo De Paul fed a square pass with the outside portion of his right foot to his right and then Messi one-time a left-footed shot into the left side of the cage from 21 yards away. Messi is now ahead for the Golden Boot Award in Major League Soccer with his 19th goal of the season. 

     It became 2-2 during stoppage time at the end of the second half. Surridge collected his second goal of the contest for Nashville SC when he tapped in a rebound shot with his left foot from two yards. 

Marlins Hold Off Dodgers

     The Los Angeles Dodgers were downed by the Miami Marlins 4-3 on Saturday at loanDepot park. The Marlins ended a four-game losing streak. The Dodgers were victorious eight consecutive games until tonight.

     Los Angeles(90-58) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second with back-to-back home runs.Mookie Betts belted a solo home to left field on a 2-2 pitch for his 20th home run of the season. Max Muncy followed with a solo home run to center field for his 28th homer of the campaign.

     Miami(73-76) leaped ahead 3-2 with three runs during the bottom of the third. Graham Pauley socked a two-run homer to right-center field on a 1-1 count, with Owen Caissie on base, for his fourth home run this year. Five batters later, Otto Lopez singled into right field which scored Heriberto Hernandez.

     The Fish expanded their lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning. Javier Sanoja grounded into a fielder's choice and Griffin Conine reached home on a Betts throwing error.

     The Dodgers tried to tie it up in the top of the ninth, but they fell short by one run 4-3. Hunter Fedducia drove in. Josue De Paula with a base hit through the left circle. 

Tim Graham At WGR

     Tim Graham will start his new role as a late morning co-host at WGR-AM in Buffalo on September 14. He has worked as an early afternoon co-host at that radio station since February. He will continue as The Athletic Buffalo Bills beat reporter. 

     Graham had a reign at the Buffalo News as a Buffalo Sabres beat reporter. He moved to South Florida and became the Miami Dolphins beat writer for the Palm Beach Post. 

     He would then return to Western New York. Graham joined ESPN.com as their AFC East Division pro football writer and blogger. 

Dodgers Surf By Marlins

     The two-time defending World Series champions the Los Angeles Dodgers breezed by the Miami Marlins 6-2 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Dodgers have the second best record in the National League. 

     The Marlins extended their losing streak to four games. The Dodgers now have an eight-game winning streak.

     Dodgers designated hitter and starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani was placed on the 10-day injured list and will not play in the three-game series. He accomplished a Major League Baseball milestone two years ago in Miami. Ohtani became the first player to have 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season. Josue De Paula made his Major League Baseball debut for the Dodgers.

     Los Angeles(90-57) had a 1-0 advantage in the top of the third. Kyle Tucker hit a sacrifice fly to left field which scored Tommy Edman.

     It became 2-0 for the Dodgers in the top of the sixth. Will Smith singled into right field and Tucker crossed the plate.

     Miami(72-76) closed it to 2-1 during the bottom of the sixth. Agustin Ramirez doubled into the right-center field gap and Javier Sanoja raced home.

     Los Angeles poured on four runs in the seventh inning and pulled away 6-1. Tucker smacked a grand-slam homer to right field on a 1-1 pitch for his 14th home run of the season. Edman, Max Muncy and Mookie Betts scored in front of him on the play. It turned out to Tucker's first grand-slam home run since August 2023. 

     The Marlins added one more run in the eighth inning. Owen Caissie knocked in Sanoja on a sacrifice fly into left field. 

West Palm Beach Ratings August 2026

     The ratings were issued for West Palm Beach sports talk format radio stations. The time span went from the fourth week of July to the third week of August. 

     ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM ended up again with a 0.7 in the month. The Miami Dolphins had a 0-2 record during the preseason. 

     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM stayed at a 0.4 in the period. The radio station did not air any game broadcasts. 

     Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM remained at a 0.0 for the fifth straight month. The Miami Marlins saw their record fall and were outside of the National League Wild-Card race. 

St. Thomas Aquinas Blanks Dillard

     The St. Thomas Aquinas made the three-mile trip up Northwest 27th Avenue and blasted the Dillard Panthers 49-0 at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday night. Both teams were in the same district earlier this decade. It was their first matchup against each other since 2023. 

     St. Thomas Aquinas(4-0) took control at the beginning of the contest. The Raiders had a 35-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Dillard(2-2) allowed another touchdown late in the second quarter and they trailed 42-0 at halftime.

     A running clock was implemented for the second half. STA added another score midway in the third quarter for a 49-point margin.

West Boca Raton Topples Cardinal Newman

     The FHSAA Class 6A state champions the West Boca Raton Bulls defeated the FHSAA Class 1A state champions the Cardinal Newman Crusaders 24-7 in Boca Raton on Thursday night at Frank A. Barbieri Jr. Stadium. It was a battle between two reigning state champions. 

     West Boca Raton(3-0) ended up getting a field goal to go up 3-0 early in the second quarter. The Bulls increased their lead to 10-0 on a touchdown midway in the second.

     In the second half, West Boca Raton made it 17-0 three minutes into the third quarter. Cardinal Newman(3-1) broke the shutout with seven minutes remaining in the third with a score to make it 17-7. The Bulls found the end zone again one minute into the final quarter for a 24-7 lead.

Hurricanes Pound Florida A&M

     The University of Miami Hurricanes dominated the Florida A&M Rattlers 77-7 at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night. The Hurricanes last played at that venue for the CPF National Championship versus Indiana back in January. 

     The Canes matched their total for the most points scored in a game in school history. They also set a record with 856 total yards on offense. 

     Miami(2-0) struck quickly at the 12:37 mark of the first quarter and led 7-0. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. sprinted down the left side on a 47-yard touchdown run. 

     The Hurricanes extended it to 14-0 at 11:11 of the first. Quarterback Darian Mensah connected a 55-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver xxx  Moore on the left hash marks.

     Florida A&M(1-2) fell behind 21-0 with 6:17 to go in the first. Fletcher rushed up the middle from one yard out.

     The Canes made it 28-0 on the first play of the second quarter. Mensah tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Malachi Toney on the front left side of the end zone.  

      It became 35-0 for the Hurricanes at 10:10 of the second. Running back Jarrod Pringle Jr. cut back to around the left side on a five-yard run.

      Miami expanded it to 49-0 with 46 seconds remaining in the first half. Running back Javion Mallory raced up the middle from 16 yards away.

Keidron Smith With Bears

     One-time Palm Beach County high school football player Keidron Smith has joined the Chicago Bears practice squad. He was waived by both the New York Jets and the Atlanta Falcons in August. 

     Smith played high school football with the Oxbridge Academy Thunderwolves. They fell to the Chaminade-Madonna Lions in the 2017 FHSAA Class 3A state championship game. 

     He spent college football with Ole Miss and Kentucky. He was with the Denver Broncos for nine games in 2024 and the New York Jets for three contests in 2025. 

Miami Ratings August 2026

     The ratings were issued for Miami/Fort Lauderdale sports talk format radio stations. The time span went from the fourth week in July to the third week in August. 

     104.3 Sports WQAM-FM increased from a 1.0 to a 1.1 in the month. The momentum the Miami Marlins had during the month of June did not carry into the month of July. The Fish were third in the National League East Division and behind four games for a wild-card spot. 

     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM shifted from a 0.3 to a 0.2 in the period. The Miami Dolphins returned to action and lost to NFC East Division teams in their first two preseason contests. WZTU-FM-HD2 with the WINZ stream remained the same at a 0.3. 

     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM changed from a 0.2 to a 0.1 in the month. They did not have any game broadcasts on their radio station. 

Inter Miami CF Ties Chicago Fire FC

     Inter Miami CF tied Chicago Fire FC 1-1 at Soldier Field on Wednesday night. Both teams were battling for second place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Herons, who have tied three of their past five Major League Soccer contests, played their first road game following a three-game homestand over the past three weeks. 

     Chicago Fire FC(11-6-6) scooted out to a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play. They crossed the ball from the left side and Robert Lewandowski volleyed a right-footed shot from nine yards away into the top left corner of the cage. 

     In the second half, Inter Miami CF(12-4-8) evened it up 1-1 during the 48th minute. Lionel Messi took a corner kick from the left side and Carlos Casemiro placed in a header from eight yards out into the left side of the net. It was the third straight game that Casemiro scored on a header off a corner kick. 

Mets Outbattle Marlins

     The New York Mets outscored the Miami Marlins 15-14 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins looked like they were on their way to their largest comeback victory ever in franchise history after being down by eight runs. The Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Fish. 

     The Marlins have tomorrow off and will host the reigning World Series champions the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday to begin a three-game series. The Mets will challenge the New York Yankees in The Bronx on Friday in remembering the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States of America. 

     New York(68-78) batted around and piled on six runs in the top of the second for a 6-0 lead. A.J. Ewing drove in Jared Young with a base hit into right field. Brett Baty followed with a single up the middle and Marcus Semien touched home. Luis Torrens then doubled into the right-center field gap to score Ewing and pinch-runner Christopher Morel. Three batters later, Bo Bichette sliced a single inside the right-field line and Torrens raced home. Carson Benge came up next and grounded out to first which scored Francisco Lindor. 

     The Mets expanded their lead to 8-0 during the third inning. Morel lifted a home run to left field on a 1-0 pitch for his first homer of the year and in a Mets uniform. Ewing scored in front of him on the play. 

     Miami(72-75) scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-3. Graham Pauley knocked in Otto Lopez on a single into right field. Joe Mack followed with a base hit up the middle to score Jakob Marsee and Owen Caissie. 

     The Marlins scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie it up 8-8. Caissie powered a solo homer to center field on a 1-2 count for his 14th home run of the season. Five batters later, Griffin Conine singled into right field and Pauley scored. Joe Mack would score on a walk by Lopez with the bases loaded. Marsee came up next and singled through the left side for Heriberto Hernandez and Conine to cross the plate. 

     In the top of the seventh, New York answered back with six runs to move ahead 14-8. The frame was capped on a three-run homer by Lindor to right field on the first pitch with Morel and Torrens aboard. It was the 18th home run for Lindor in 2026. 

     The Fish responded with one run in the bottom of the seventh and were down 14-9. Mack smacked a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-1 pitch for his 13th homer in his rookie year. 

     The Mets extended their lead to 15-9 in the top of eighth. Torrens drove in Young with an infield base hit down the third-base line. 

     Miami got two runs during the bottom of the eighth and made it 15-11. Caissie and Pauley picked up back-to-back, RBI-singles into center field. 

     The Marlins had three runs in the bottom of the ninth to make it 15-14 and fell short by one run. Conine doubled down the right-field line which scored Kyle Stowers. Lopez came up next with a triple into the right-field corner and Stowers reached home. Marsee followed with a base hit into shallow right field and Lopez scored. Three batters later, Pauley popped out to short with the tying run on second and the winning run on first to end the game. 

Bryce Oliver Gone From Browns

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Bryce Oliver has been released from the Cleveland Browns practice squad. He signed with the club on September 2. 

     Oliver participated in high school football with the Dillard Panthers. He was with the University of Kentucky and Youngstown State in college football. He played in 13 contests with the Tennessee Titans during two seasons from 2024 to 2025. 

Mets Blitz Marlins

     The New York Mets hammered the Miami Marlins 7-5 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. Both teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow. Miami(72-74) is two games under .500 for the first time since July 26

     New York(67-78) broke out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Francisco Lindor led off and powered the first pitch of the contest over the center-field fence for his 17th home run of the season. Four batters later, Jared Young singled up the middle which brought in Juan Soto. 

     The Mets increased their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second with three more runs. Soto walloped a three-run homer to center field on the first pitch with Francisco Alvarez and Lindor aboard. It turned out to be the 24th home run for Soto this season. 

     It became 6-0 for New York during the third inning. Brett Baty lifted a solo home run to center field on a 3-2 count for his 10th homer of the campaign. 

     The Marlins gave up another run in the top of the fifth and they were down 7-0. Baty hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Young reached home. 

     Miami responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 7-4. Jakob Marsee broke up the perfect game by Mets starting pitcher Sean Manaea with a double into shallow left. Jared Serna came up next and doubled into the left-center field gap for Marsee to score. Brian Navarreto followed with a double into the left-field corner and Jared Serna touched home. Two batters later, Otto Lopez knocked in Navarreto on a base hit into left field. Two batters after that, Sanoja drove in Lopez with a single up the middle. 

     The Fish went down with a fight in the ninth inning to make it 7-5. Marsee doubled down the left-field line which scored Joe Mack. 

Browns Release Tyreak Sapp

     The Cleveland Browns have let go defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp. He signed a deal with the team as an undrafted free agent in April. 

     Sapp played high school football with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. He helped STA capture two straight FHSAA Class 7A state championships in 2019 and 2020. Sapp was at the University of Florida from 2021 to 2025 for college football. 

Mets Shake Marlins

     The New York Mets stopped the Miami Marlins 9-4 on Monday at loanDepot park. The Marlins were approaching the midway point of their long nine-game homestand. 

     New York(66-78) rolled out to a 2-0 advantage in the opening frame. Bo Bichette reached base on a fielder's choice throwing error and Juan Soto crossed the plate. They later pulled off a double steal and Bichette scored on a throwing error by Joe Mack.

      The Mets extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the second. Nick Morebito knocked in Brett Baty with a single into center field. 

      Miami(72-73) leaped to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second with four runs. Javier Sanoja tripled into the left-center field gap and Jakob Marsee raced home. Two batters later, Graham Pauley smacked a three-run homer to right field on a 1-2 pitch with Sanoja and Owen Caissie aboard. It was the third home run for Pauley in the 2026 campaign.

     It became 4-4 during the third inning. Francisco Alvarez singled up the middle for Marcus Semien to score.

     In the fourth inning, New York regained the lead 7-4. Bichette drove in Francisco Lindor with a base hit into right field. Three batters later, A.J. Ewing doubled down the left-field line for Soto and Carson Benge to score.

      The Mets increased it to 9-4 n the top of the sixth. Semien doubled into the left-field corner and Benge scored. Ewing came up next and singled through the left side to score Semien.

Steve Goldstein Joins Sports USA

     Florida Panthers television play-by-play announcer and WFOR-TV Channel 4 television sportscaster Steve Goldstein has joined Sports USA. He will announce radio broadcasts of National Football League games and National Hockey League games. 

     Goldstein will continue those two South Florida positions after receiving permission from both the Florida Panthers and WFOR-TV to work for Sports USA. He is not likely to continue his job as the Miami Dolphins Radio Network pregame studio host for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. 

     Goldstein might possibly work the Florida Panthers season-opening contest at the reigning Stanley Cup champions the Carolina Hurricanes on Sports USA. The game will be televised exclusively by ESPN and there will be no Panthers Scripps Sports local broadcast on September 29. Florida will then continue a California road trip to begin their 2026-27 NHL campaign. 

     He will also announce NFL regular season games on Sundays for Sports USA this season. It will lighten his duties at WFOR-TV covering Miami Dolphins games. 

     Goldstein has worked in the Miami market since late 1994. He had several stints at 560 WQAM-AM as a sports on-air personality. Goldstein started as a morning sports anchor for The First Team morning program in 1994. Goldstein was elevated to morning on-air sidekick in 1995. He was later promoted to The First Team morning show co-host role with Joe Rose and Jeff DeForrest and held that position until December 2001. Goldstein become the morning co-host on WQAM alongside Howard David from March 2002 until August 2004. He was employed as an early afternoon co-host with Adam Kuperstein from January 2012 to October 2012. 

     He also had short stays at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM during the 2004-05 NHL lockout as a weekend host and Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM as a morning co-host with DeForrest that began in January 2013 and ended in early 2014. Goldstein did host a weekend show with Sportsfan Radio Network during the mid 1990s. 

     Goldstein, a Syracuse University grad, was the Panthers radio studio host on the Florida Panthers Radio Network from October 1996 until the middle of 2004. He was named their new radio play-by-play voice prior to the 2004-05 NHL lockout season replacing Jiggs McDonald. Goldstein was elevated to the television play-by-play announcer position prior to the 2007-08 campaign. He has held that spot for the past 19 years. 

     He last worked as a radio play-by-play announcer for Westwood One. He announced hockey games at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver with former Florida Panthers goalie John Vanbiesbrouck and at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi with one-time Florida Panthers defenseman Bret Hedican. 

     Goldstein has held the sportscaster position at WFOR-TV since 2015. He was a studio co-host of Miccosukee Sports Rap on Fox Sports Net Florida in the 2000s.  Goldstein later co-hosted a Saturday program called Sports Bang with "Stugotz" Jon Weiner and Amber Wilson from October 2012 until the mid 2010s.
