St. Thomas Aquinas Tops Columbus

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders held off the Columbus Explorers 31-24 at Simmons Family Field on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale. Both teams played last Saturday on the same gridiron of Brian Piccolo Stadium against different out-of-state opponents during the Broward County High School Showcase. 
     St. Thomas Aquinas(3-0) rolled out to a 7-0 lead on their first possession of the game in the opening quarter. Columbus(2-1) would evened it up 7-7, but STA answered back to make it 14-7 midway through the second quarter. The Raiders got a field goal at the end of the first half and led 17-7 at halftime.
      STA reached the end zone early in the third quarter and expanded their lead to 24-7. The Explorers responded and made it 24-14 in third. Columbus outscored their opponent 10-7 in the final quarter, however they fell short by seven points to St. Thomas Aquinas 31-24.
