The Park Vista Cobras look for revenge as they travel to northern Palm Beach County and take on the Palm Beach Gardens Gators at Mullinax Ford Stadium on Friday night. Park Vista hosted a Class 8A regional quarterfinal last year and were upset by Palm Beach Gardens 38-28.
Park Vista(6-2) is on the outside looking in as they are not among the final four at-large bids for the Class 8A playoffs in Region 3. They desperately need a win to climb over two schools and get the eighth seed. Since losing to eventual District 10 champion Atlantic, the Cobras have won five straight victories which included three shutouts. They have averaged 46 points per game and outscored their opponents 230-14 in that span.
The first thing to see from the Cobras offense is their passing game. Quarterback John Smith intends to find wide receivers Atorian Perry, Rishon Patrick and Lucas Deininger for receptions. They have options in the backfield with running backs Camron Mann and Nick King.
It has been a tough regular season for Palm Beach Gardens(3-5) with them just about out of playoff contention for a wild-card bid. They have lost four of their last five games. The Gators have had close losses this year to Dwyer, Seminole Ridge, Pahokee, Wellington and Palm Beach Central.
Defensive back and special teams returner Gurvan Hall leads the way for the Gators. Chris Sancilio is at the quarterback spot with running backs Kevon Purnell and Pedro Epps in the backfield. They have a wide receiver core that includes Deonte Cooley, Armani Hayes, Antoine Lane, Jack Hockenson and Ponce Hollowell who can make catches from Sancilio.

West Palm Beach Ratings October 2017
Ratings in the West Palm Beach region were introduced for the third month in which there are three competitors with a sports talk format. All three stations bounced back from the impact of Hurricane Irma in the local area.
ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM have been impacted as the flagship station the Florida Atlantic University football with head coach Lane Kiffin and four straight conference wins in October by the school. It will be the final ratings period with evening host Joe Colella who has left the station.
640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM saw a drop in their numbers from a 0.5 to a 0.4 in October. It is a surprise considering that the University of Miami Hurricanes began the season undefeated, leading the ACC Coastal Division and beating Florida State. The New York Yankees had a long playoff stay and reached Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
1230 The Zone WBZT-AM remained the same for the second straight month with a 0.0 in the period. There were no more Miami Marlins broadcasts and the station continues to pipe in CBS Sports Radio Network along with the Jeff DeForest morning show as a local presence.

Muck Bowl 2017 Preview
The Pahokee Blue Devils challenge the Glades Central Raiders in the annual Muck Bowl at Effie C. Grear Field in Belle Glade on Friday night. Pahokee stopped an eight-game Muck Bowl losing streak to Glades Central last year with a 27-14 home victory.
Pahokee(6-2), who are currently first in Class 1A in Region 4 of the FHSAA playoff point standings, look to have home-field advantage in the first two rounds of the playoffs. They went on the road last week and were blanked by the defending Class 3A state champion Cocoa 45-0. The Blue Devils have beaten large schools in Palm Beach County that includes Palm Beach Lakes, Boynton Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and Seminole Ridge.
Even though Akeem Dent transferred to Palm Beach Central earlier this year, the Blue Devils have clicked well offensively with Deonte Nelson at quarterback. Running backs Jatarie Washington and LeVonski Williams will see action from the backfield. Wide receiver Tyler Gilbert is the primary target for passes from Nelson.
Glades Central(6-2) visited West Palm Beach last week and topped Cardinal Newman 40-24. The Raiders recently landed the fourth and final seed of Class 4A in Region 4 in the playoff point standings to be eligible for the upcoming FHSAA playoffs. After a loss to Oxbridge Academy, they have been riding a four-game winning streak with victories over Lake Worth, Boynton Beach, American Heritage and Cardinal Newman.

Richards is expected to find wide receivers Dejuan Miller, Jymetre Hester, Kamare Stephens, Odieu Hilaire and Mohammad Shatara all over the field. Running back Steve Barrett will got most the carries along with an occasional rush by Waymond Jones.

Heat Outlast Bulls
The Miami Heat finished a six-game home stand with a 97-91 victory over the Chicago Bulls at American Airlines Arena on Wednesday night. Both clubs entered the game with two of the three worst records in the Eastern Conference. It was expected that former Heat guard Dwyane Wade would show up at this contest, but his contract was bought out by the Bulls late in the summer and he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Miami(3-4), who ended a three-game losing streak, blasted through with a 22-7 run and led 27-17 after one quarter. The double-digit lead disappeared as Chicago(1-5) climbed back and were down 49-47 at halftime. Both teams stayed close to each other in the second half as the Heat were ahead 67-64 after three quarters. The Heat outscored the Bulls 30-27 in the fourth quarter to take the win.
Goran Dragic compiled 20 points, six assists and five rebounds of the Heat. Hassan Whiteside put together a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Tyler Johnson added 19 points while Dion Waiters had 13 points. Lauri Markkanen had a game-high 25 points for the Bulls and Robin Lopez added 22 points.

The United States Department of Justice has approved the merger between Entercom Communications and CBS Radio. It is now up to the Federal Communications Commission to approve the merger.
Shareholders from both companies will get together in two different meetings and are expected to approve the stock exchange between both corporations. It is expected that both organizations can be merged by November 17.
It will have an effect locally on the two radio stations in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale region that run a sports talk format. Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM of CBS Radio and Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM of Entercom Communications have been head-to-head competitors in the South Florida market since August 2004.
It is expected that their will be no job cuts of on-air talent, producers, management and sales staff with the merger between both corporations. Neither station will change their on-air product of local shows and broadcast separate programming schedules.

Kelvin Benjamin Traded To Buffalo Bills
The Carolina Panthers traded wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday for a 2018 third-round and seventh-round pick. Benjamin was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Panthers in 2014.
Even though he was injured throughout the 2015 season, he was part of the club when they won the NFC Championship in 2015 and lost to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. Benjamin had 168 receptions for 2,424 yards and 18 touchdown catches in 40 games over four seasons with Carolina.
Benjamin played for three years at Florida State University and helped the school win their third national championship. His final play with the Seminoles was a game-winning touchdown catch from quarterback Jameis Winston to win the 2013 BCS National Championship against the Auburn University Tigers at the Rose Bowl.
Benjamin attended Glades Central High School in Belle Glade and played with them for four seasons. Just like in college, he caught a touchdown pass, this one from 20 yards away, on his final play with the Raiders in a regular season game at Boynton Beach against the Tigers. Benjamin was ineligible for the remainder of the season because he turned 19 years old and the FHSAA had an age limit for high school athletes. The Raiders eventually made it to the 2010 Class 2A championship game in Orlando and lost to Cocoa 14-13.
