The Palm Beach Gardens Gators challenge the Deerfield Beach Bucks at Butler Stadium on Friday night in a Class 8A regional quarterfinal. It is a rematch of the 2005 Class 6A state title game which the Gators won over the Bucks.
Palm Beach Gardens(7-2) has lost their last two games. They fell to Palm Beach Central 28-14 for the District 10 title and lost to an undefeated Palm Beach Lakes squad 34-14 last week. The Gators have a choice at quarterback with Lynden Moss and Tyler Kolb. The majority of rushing attempts will be done by running back Ernest Blackshear. They have wide receivers Myron Levy and Jabril Jarrett as deep threats.
Deerfield Beach(7-3) comes into this contest with momentum. After a loss to St. Thomas Aquinas, the Bucks got the District 12 title with a 41-0 victory over Monarch and then stomped Hallandale 48-18 last week. Quarterback Derohn King will lead them on offense with Michael Pratt hurt. Running back Jaylan Knighton is expected to get the bulk of the carries from the backfield. Wide receivers Xavier Restrepo, Deajaun McDougle, Bryce Gowdy and Alex Henningham are expected to make pass receptions from King.

Blanche Ely At Atlantic Preview
It is a rematch of the District 15 title game as the Blanche Ely Tigers visit the Atlantic Eagles at Hilltop Stadium on Friday night in a Class 7A regional quarterfinal contest. The Eagles took the district title with a 34-16 win over the Tigers two weeks ago.
It has been a bad two weeks for Blanche Ely(7-3) as they fell to Atlantic and lost to Dillard 60-14 in the Soul Bowl last week. The Tigers look for their quarterback Javon Williams to help them march down the field. His main targets when throwing the ball will be wide receivers Darnell Deas, Courtney Gordon, Devante Deas and Tomorius Grant.

Heat Sting Suns
The Miami Heat continued their road trip on Thursday night with a 124-108 victory over the Phoenix Suns . The Heat next play LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.
Miami(6-2) was barely ahead 31-30 after one quarter and had a 64-57 halftime lead. Phoenix(5-3) stayed in contention and were still down by seven points 93-86 at the end of three quarters. The Heat outscored the Suns 31-22 in the final quarter.
Jimmy Butler had a season-high 34 points and was the leading scorer for the Heat. Goran Dragic contributed 25 points and Bam Adebayo compiled a double-double of 15 points along with 10 rebounds. Devin Booker got a team-high 22 points for Phoenix.

Panthers Shaken By Capitals
The Florida Panthers had a five-day rest and lost to the Washington Capitals 5-4 in overtime at BB&T Center on Thursday night. It is the longest break the club will have until the late December holiday period.
It took just 25 seconds for Washington(12-2-3) to get on the scoreboard. Michal Kempny made a cross-ice pass from the left point to John Karlson on the inner right circle. He fired a rapid shot through went through Sergei Bobrovsky for his eight goal of the year. Alex Ovechkin was credited was an assist on the play.
Florida(7-3-5) had a quick response and tied the contest 1-1 at the 1:55 mark. Frank Vatrano dashed in through the slot on a breakaway and slide the puck from the crease past Braden Hollby for his fourth tally of the season.
The Panthers got their first lead of the game with 5:34 left in the first period. Brian Boyle passed the puck from the right wing to Anton Stralman on the right point. His slapshot was deflected in by former Capital Brett Connolly from the top of the crease for his sixth goal of the campaign.
In the second period, the Cats made it a two-goal margin just 27 seconds into the frame. Jonathan Huberdeau forced Kempny to make a turnover in the left corner. Evgenii Dadonov connected a pass from the left wing to Aleksander Barkov in the slot area and he scored his third goal of the year on a snap shot.
The Capitals pulled off a power-play goal at the 6:13 mark. Evgeny Kuznetsov sent a cross-ice pass from the right circle. Ovechkin then one-timed a slap shot from the left circle into a wide-open net.
It became a 3-3 game with 7:46 remaining in the second when the Caps scored again. Dmitry Orlov forwarded the puck from the left point to Ovechkin on the left wing. He released the puck and it went off a defender and into the Panthers cage for his second goal of the game and 13th goal of the season.
Florida reclaimed the lead on the power play 4-3 with 1:01 left in the period. Barkov was on the end wall and moved it to Huberdeau. He found Dadonov for a one-time shot from the low slot for his seventh goal this year.

Gerry Hamilton Play-By-Play Announcer
College football national recruiting expert Gerry Hamilton added a new role recently as a high school football play-by-play announcer on ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM. He worked games in the last two weeks of regular season alongside former Suncoast coach Jimmie Bell. Hamilton currently hosts a weekend show on that station.
Hamilton has covered high school football in Florida at ESPN for a long time. He has been the game analyst on high school football games at WTVX-TV Channel 34 in West Palm Beach since 2016. Hamilton has worked in the broadcast booth with Jeremy Marks-Peltz and Mike Mreczko.
