The Miami Marlins have signed South Florida native catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia to a three-year, $21 million contract. He helped the Boston Red Sox win the 2013 World Series last season as he compiled 14 home runs, 65 RBI, .804 OPS and a .273 batting average in 121 games.
Saltalamacchia, a Royal Palm Beach High School grad, was a first round pick by the Atlanta Braves at the Major League Baseball Draft in 2003. He played only 47 games for them in 2007 until he was dealt to the Texas Rangers on July 31. After playing just 193 games during his three seasons there, he was traded to the Red Sox on July 31, 2010. The only postseason appearance in his major league career was last year with that club.
