Three-time world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali passed away on Friday at the age of 74. He had a connection with South Florida when he trained at the 5th Street Gym in Miami Beach during the 1960's. In addition, the Miami Marlins had Ali throw out the first pitch at Marlins Park in 2012 when the new facility opened.
Ali won the heavyweight title for the first time in 1964 at the Miami Beach Convention Center when he knocked out Sonny Liston to win the title. He recaptured it again in 1974 against George Foreman in Zaire and in 1978 from Leon Spinks in New Orleans.
