The University School Sharks smashed the Glades Central Raiders 35-6 at AutoNation Field on Friday night. Both teams met two times last season which included a Sharks 44-21 playoff victory in a Class 4A regional semifinal game.
University School(1-0) was able to score twice in the first quarter. Quarterback Nick Vattiato found wide receiver Robert Floyd on the left side of the end zone on a 30-yard touchdown pass at 6:26. Running back Kenny McIntosh scored a two-point conversion on a shovel pass to make it 8-0. Vattiato then scored on their next possession as he scrambled around the right end and scored from three yards away at the 3:25 mark.
The Sharks extended their lead to 21-0 at 7:22 of the second quarter. McIntosh ran toward the right sideline and got into the end zone from 10 yards out. University School made it a 28-point margin with 2:13 left in the first half. Wide receiver Zay Flowers caught a ball on the left hash marks from Vattiato and scored on a 27-yard reception.
In the third quarter, the Raiders surrendered another touchdown at 5:43. Wide receiver Brandon Inniss received a pass in the middle of the field and pulled away from the secondary for a 28-yard score.
There was a running clock implemented for the fourth quarter and Glades Central(0-1) finally scored to break the shutout. Running back Jaheim Humphries ran six yards, fumbled the ball into the end zone and it was recovered by Raiders wide receiver Ja'Vontae Williams with 8:35 remaining.
