Miami(28-34) compiled four runs with back-to-back-to back home runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-0 lead. Joe Mack picked up his first career home run in the majors with a two-run homer to right-center field. Owen Caissie scored in front of him on the play.
Heriberto Hernandez followed with a solo home run barely over the center-field wall on a 2-1 count for his fourth homer of the year. Otto Lopez came up next and belted a solo homer to left field on a 2-1 pitch for his fifth home run of the season.
Washington(31-31) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-1. Luis Garcia Jr. grounded into a force out and Keibert Ruiz crossed the plate.
The Nationals made it 4-3 in the seventh inning. Dylan Crews ended up with an infield hit. Leo Jimenez made a throwing error from third and C.J. Abrams reached home. Two batters later, Ruiz grounded out to first and Daylen Lile scored.
The Marlins pulled away with three runs in the ninth inning for a 7-3 advantage. Liam Hicks scored on a sacrifice bunt by Mack to the pitcher. Hernandez then hammered a two-run homer to left field on a 2-1 count with Jakob Marsee on base. It was Hernandez's second home run of the contest and fifth in 2026.
