The Miami Marlins advanced by the Washington Nationals 4-1 at Nationals Park on Wednesday. The Marlins finished up a nine-game road trip. Marlins starting pitcher Max Meyer improved to 6-0 this season as he pitched seven innings and gave up one run on two hits.
Miami(29-34) got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Esteury Ruiz cracked a solo home run off the left-field foul pole on a 3-1 pitch for his third homer of the year.
Washington(31-32) evened it up 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Keibert Ruiz scored when Dylan Crews reached first on a fielder's choice.
The Fish took a 3-1 advantage in the eighth inning with two runs. Joe Mack knocked in Liam Hicks and Jakob Marsee with a single into right field.
It became 4-1 for the Marlins in the top of the ninth. Kyle Stowers tripled off the right-center field fence and Otto Lopez crossed the plate.
