The Florida Panthers sneaked by the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 at Cyrpto.com Arena on Tuesday night. The Panthers concluded a four-game road trip to begin the 2026-27 season. This was the Kings home opener of the 2026-27 campaign.
The Cats have not lost a contest in regulation time so far this year. Florida will have their home opener on Saturday night against the Minnesota Wild.
The Kings were held to one shot on goal in the first 13 minutes of the contest and six shots on goal in the opening period. The Panthers ended up with seven shots on goal in the opening frame.
Los Angeles(0-2-1) made it 1-0 with 1:00 to go in the first. Former Panthers forward Erik Haula carried the puck from behind the Panthers cage and took a shot from the low left circle. It was saved by Jacob Markstrom, however Alex Laferriere put in the rebound on a wrist shot from the left side of the crease for his first tally of the year.
Florida(2-0-2) tied it up 1-1 at the 3:49 mark of the second period. Lars Eller entered the Kings defensive zone and zipped a cross-ice pass from the right point. Seth Jones skated through the left circle and released a forehand shot from the left side of the crease past Darcy Kuemper for his first goal this season.
In the third period, the Panthers took the lead 2-1 with 8:40 remaining. Matthew Tkachuk angled a lead pass from the red line. Sam Bennett brought the puck to the high slot and then made a square pass to his left. Tkachuk snapped a shot from the left-circle dot for his second goal in 2026-27. It was the first time this season that Florida had a lead during regulation time.
