North Broward Prep Wins State Title Again
For the second consecutive year and the third time in four years, the North Broward Prep Eagles captured the Florida High School state hockey championship in Coral Springs on Sunday. The Eagles defeated the Cypress Bay Lightning 4-3 in overtime to win the championship game. Both squads have faced each other in the Florida state championship and South Florida championship the last two years with North Broward Prep victorious each time. Cypress Bay got a game-tying goal with just ten seconds remaining in the third period. Eagles captain Brandon Palacio would pick up the deciding goal in overtime to win the state championship. North Broward Prep have won the state title in 2009, 2011 and 2012. They now qualify for a national tournament that will take place next month in Salt Lake City, Utah.
