Tuesday was the 50th anniversary of the heavyweight championship fight between Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston at the Miami Beach Convention Center. This boxing match became one of the most recognized sporting events ever held in South Florida.
Clay, who in March 1964 would go by his new name Muhammad Ali, captured the world heavyweight title for the first time when the fight was stopped prior to the seventh round as Liston did not answer the bell to fight. Ali would became champion again on two other occasions.
