The Florida Panthers began a short two-day, two-game trip on Monday night in Columbus and lost to the Blue Jackets 2-1 at Nationwide Arena. The Cats had their two-game win streak snapped. Both teams will meet again on Thursday night in Sunrise.
Columbus(7-15-2) had just one shot on goal in the first 15 minutes of the game. They scored on their second shot with 4:53 left in the first period. Michael Chaput fed the puck from the right corner to in front where Matt Calvert went around Al Montoya with a backhand shot for a 1-0 lead.
Florida(9-7-6) scored their only goal on the power play at 1:23 of the second period to tie the game. Aaron Ekblad took a slapshot from the top of the zone which went off defenseman Jack Johnson and by Sergei Bobrovsky.
The Blue Jackets regained the lead midway through the third period on a Panthers turnover. Kerby Rychel sent a spin-around wrist shot on net from the slot area which was saved, but Boone Jenner scored on the rebound with a backhand shot in the crease area at 10:05.
