Former South Florida sportscaster Larry Smith will join WJLA-TV in Washington D.C. as a morning news anchor in April. He leaves his position as a sports director and sports anchor at WGCL-TV in Atlanta which he started in July 2013. He had a short stint for several months in Cincinnati with WCPO-TV in early 2013.
Smith first got noticed locally when he was a sports anchor at WPTV-TV Channel 5 in West Palm Beach from March 1992 until November 1993. He got on the national stage as a sports anchor at CNN from December 1993 to May 2009. Smith was a co-anchor on CNN Sports Tonight from 1993 until it was eliminated in September 2001. He remained as a sports anchor on CNN and CNN Headline News for the next eight years. Smith got a promotion as a studio host for Turner Sports from 2009 to 2012.
