Panthers Get By Bruins

It was a game with playoff implications as the Florida Panthers beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 in a shootout at BB&T Center on Saturday night. The Panthers pulled to four points behind the B's for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Florida also snapped a nine-game winless streak to the Bruins.
In the first period, Florida(33-25-14) got out to a 1-0 lead with 5:19 left in the frame. Jussi Jokinen forwarded the puck down the right-wing wall to Dave Bolland in the right corner. He backhanded it to the middle where Jimmy Hayes scored from the top edge of the blue paint as he beat Tuukka Rask with a snap shot. It was his 18th goal of the season after being held goalless in the last 14 games.
Boston(36-24-12) converted on their second power play of the game at 2:52 of the second period. Dougie Hamilton set the play up as he connected with a pass from the top of the zone to Ryan Spooner at the top right circle. Patrice Bergeron received a feed in the slot area and he scored on a slapshot by Roberto Luongo for his 20th goal.
The game was decided in a shootout where only one player was able to get a tally. On the Panthers second attempt, Brandon Pirri slowly shuffled the puck on his stick in the low slot before putting in a forehand shot underneath the right arm of Rask.
