The Florida Panthers had their three-game win streak snapped as they fell to the New York Rangers 2-1 at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. The Rangers climbed to the best record in the National Hockey League with 95 points. The Cats still remain six points back for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
New York(44-17-7) had the only goal during the first period at 17:44. Matt Hunwick took a shot from the right wing which was redirected twice. First by Dominic Moore in the slot followed by James Sheppard to the left of the crease for his first goal with his new team.
Another Ranger would score his first goal with the Blueshirts as Hunwick fired a slapshot from the left point which clanked in off the right post at 8:37 of the third period.
Florida(31-24-14) closed the margin to 2-1 with 9:49 left in regulation. Nick Bjugstad won a face-off in the right circle and put it back to Brandon Pirri. He released a wrist shot which went through the legs of Cam Talbot.
