Panthers Slow Down Blues

The Florida Panthers edged the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Tuesday night at Scottrade Center. It was the second game of a five-game road trip for the Panthers who have won three consecutive games on the road. The Cats had been winless in their last six games against the Blues.
The first period remained scoreless as both teams combined for seven shots in the frame. It took l5 minutes for St. Louis to get their first shot on net.
In the second period, Florida pulled off two goals in less than l5 seconds. Brandon Pirri received a long lead pass at the St. Louis blue line from Derek MacKenzie, skated on net with a breakaway and buried home a backhand shot by Brian Elliott. Steve Ott would lose the puck in his own zone seconds later and MacKenzie blasted a slapshot for a score from the slot area.
The Blues broke the shutout twenty seconds later as David Backes sent a turnaround shot from the edge of the left circle off the skate of Dylan Olsen and past Roberto Luongo.
MacKenzie followed with an unassisted goal with over three minutes remaining as he rambled through the neutral zone after he intercepted a pass from Kevin Shattenkirk and fired a wrist shot from the high slot. It's the first multi-point game for MacKenzie this season.
