The Miami Southridge Spartans held off the Palm Beach Gardens Gators 7-6 at Mullinax Ford Stadium on Wednesday night in a two-quarter game. It was the first spring high school football game played in Palm Beach County.
Palm Beach Gardens opened up the scoring. Robert Palegreto intercepted a pass with 56 seconds remaining in the first quarter and returned it to his own 46-yard line. The Gators scored on the first play of the second quarter. Quarterback Tyler Kolb connected a 53-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Raphael Vasquez on the right hash marks with 11:51 to go.
Miami Southridge overtook the Gators at the 8:16 mark. Palm Beach Gardens backup quarterback Lynden Moss was picked off on his first passing attempt of the contest and Spartans defensive back Hendrick Parrish returned it 10 yards for a score and moved in front 7-6.
The Gators made it deep into Spartans territory as Vasquez caught a 35-yard pass on the left sideline with 52. 6 seconds remaining. Three plays later, Clifton Michel Jr. caught a pass on the right sideline at the two-yard line, fumbled it at the Spartans one-yard line and it was recovered by Miami Southridge with 25.1 seconds to go.
