The San Diego Padres defeated the Miami Marlins 5-2 at Petco Park on Friday night. It was the beginning of a six-game road trip for the Marlins.
San Diego(30-27) got solo home runs to left field by Franmil Reyes in the first inning and Hunter Renfroe in the fourth.
Miami(19-36) picked up a tally in the sixth inning. Pinch-hitter Rosell Herrera bashed a solo homer to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch.
The Padres extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Ian Kinsler lifted a home run to left-center field on a 1-2 count. Wil Myers later knocked in Manuel Margot on a base hit to center.
