The Milwaukee Brewers avoided a three-game sweep with a 5-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday at Miller Park. The Marlins finished a stretch in which they played 13 of their last 16 games on the road.
Milwaukee(35-28) rocketed out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Christian Yelich burned his former club with a two-run homer to right-center field on the first pitch as Lorenzo Cain scored in front of him. Three batters later, Mike Moustakas hammered a solo home run to left-center field on the initial pitch.
It became a four-run lead for the Brewers in the third inning. Moustakas hit his second home run of the contest on a 1-2 count.
Miami(22-37) compiled their only tally of the game in the top of the sixth. Garrett Cooper drove in Rosell Herrera with a single into left-center field.
In the seventh inning, Milwaukee made it 5-1. Cain crossed the plate when Ryan Braun had an infield hit to the right side.
