The Florida Panthers traded James Reimer to the Carolina Hurricanes for Scott Darling and a 2020 sixth-round draft pick on Sunday. Both clubs exchanged experienced goalies in the deal.
It will be a short stay for Darling with Florida as he was put on unconditional waivers. His final two years of his contract will be bought out by the Panthers.
Reimer leaves the Panthers after three seasons with the team. He shared duties in net with the recently retired Roberto Luongo. Reimer slipped to a .900 save percentage along with a 3.09 goals-against-average and a 13-12-5 mark in 36 games last season.
His best season with the team was in his first season in 2016-17. Reimer compiled a 18-6-5 record with a 2.56 goals-against-average and .923 save percentage in 43 games. He did have a 22-14-6 record, 2.99 goals-against-average and .913 save percentage in 44 games for his second season with the Cats in 2017-18.
