The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs host the Clewiston Tigers at Dr. Bud Tight Field on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale in a FHSAA Class 4A regional quarterfinal game. The entire gridiron at The Furnace was completely flooded over the weekend due to a tropical storm, however that has been resolved and the field is back to normal.
Clewiston(6-1) will be playing just their second game on the road this year and travel far from Hendry County. The Tigers have outscored their opponents 217-57 and have four shutouts this season. They have victories over LaBelle, DeSoto County, Archbishop McCarthy, Cardinal Newman, American Heritage and Doral Academy. Their only loss was to Calvary Christian Academy by five points. The primary target on passes for quarterback Michael Holmes is wide receiver Oran Singleton Jr. Expect running back Dawnya Washington to get some of the carries from the backfield.
Three of four opponents that Cardinal Gibbons(3-1) faced this season made the FHSAA Playoffs. The Chiefs won their first three games in the campaign versus Monsignor Pace, Doral Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas. They were edged by American Heritage by six points in their final game. Quarterback Brody Palhegyi gets to lead the Chiefs offense down the field. He has numerous targets to find with wide receivers Troy Stellato, Bryson Williams, Davon Kiser, Gabriel Morgan and Luke Dean. Running back Torrence Miller and Kamari Moulton will see their share of rushing opportunities.
