The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders go across the state and challenge the Lehigh Lightning on Friday night in a Class 7A regional quarterfinal. It is a rare occasion for St. Thomas Aquinas to play a first-round playoff game on the road.
St. Thomas Aquinas(3-1) is the defending FHSAA Class 7A champions and look toward capturing a state-record 12th title in 2020. The Raiders had their regular season finale on national television and they defeated American Heritage 33-23. STA also picked up victories over TRU Prep Academy and DeLand while they lost to Cardinal Gibbons this season. Zion Turner is a dual quarterback with the capability to throw the ball and run it out of the pocket. Running back Anthony Hankerson will get the majority of rushing attempts along with Corey Reddick. Wide receivers Bralon Brown and Quincy Skinner Jr. are the main targets for Turner on pass receptions.
Lehigh(5-4) held off Sarasota 42-21 in a play-in game last week. The Lightning have interchanged wins and losses on their schedule throughout the entire 2020 campaign. Quarterback Durand Bundy will guide the team down the field. Running back Richard Young is expected to carry the ball from the backfield. Wide receivers Tar'varish Dawson, Alex Gonzalez, Xavier Cavazos and Willie McCray can make catches from Bundy.
