The American Heritage Patriots head to Hollywood and face the Chaminade-Madonna Lions at Vince Zappone Field on Friday night. Both teams faced each other last year and the Patriots defeated the Lions 20-13.
American Heritage will be playing their first game of the 2020 regular season. They lost in the regional final last year to eventual FHSAA Class 5A state champion Miami Northwestern. The Patriots have a handful of players on their roster who were part of their last championship team in 2017. Wide receivers Orande Gadsden II, Jacolby Spells and Michael Watkins III look to make catches from quarterback Blake Murphy. Running backs Mark Fletcher and Jerry Dinkins are likely to get most of their rushing opportunities. They have a strong secondary with defensive backs James Williams and Boogsie Silvera.
Chaminade-Madonna(1-0) will host their second game of the 2020 campaign. The Lions were able to defeat defending FHSAA Class 2A state champion Champagnat Catholic 27-14 last week. Most of their players on their team were part of the championship squad last season. The defending three-time Class 3A state champions are explosive on offense led by running back Thaddius Franklin. They can go with Jaylon Tolbert and Brady Kelly at quarterback to call the signals. Defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr. will lead their defensive unit.
